The difference between Superman and Batman is that the Superman origin had already been done. The Christopher Reeves films already dealt with the origin whereas the Michael Keaton films (and subsequent sequels) did not. Batman Begins made sense in that way, but Superman wouldn't as much, especially since Smallville is still on the air and telling that story. The trailers however had scenes that looked like they might be about the young Clark Kent, but they might only be flashbacks as the script is reportedly about Superman returning to Earth after a brief hiatus in space. That would also tie-in slightly with the One Year Later and 52 storylines currently running in the DC comics, which also have the same theme of Superman "returning" after being away for a while.

Agreed TK. In the trailer Superman tells Lois something like "I've been gone a while and it's time I tell people why". Now that could mean he was gone for 3 hours while some disaster was happening or he was gone for years. My biggest problem with Superman was always the thought that no one who has seen both Clark Kent and Superman could not see they were the same person. I know it's a comic and you are already suspending belief to enjoy the idea of a super hero, but come on... give the guy a mask or something. Glasses and a slightly different hair style do not a secret identity make. At least in Batman Begins he talks in a deeper voice.

Superman has had that "gone for awhile, then come back" storyline throughout the comics. I think that it might be when he comes back from his work in Africa but who knows.
