  • Please Do This!!

This is for my Lit class -- I really don't have much time to explain, I just need you to fill out this survey. PLEASE DON'T LIE. You will throw off the numbers and results. I don't care if you were 121/129 in your class, I care that you tell the truth over trying to look smart

Name: (first name w/ last initial is fine)
Grade: (if out of HS put college)
    Home state:

GPA in HS (out of 4.0, and if available) and/or Class Rank in HS (if you could put *YOUR RANK*/total, that would rule):

How did the classes at your High School spilt ability level: (How many different level classes did you have for one class and how were they labeled)
How did they determine which class level you took?
Do you think that this selection was done fairly?

If you have taken SATs please post your score and tell if its out of 2400 or 1600.
If you have taken the ACTs please post your score.

Have you taken any SAT IIs? If so, please state the Subject and your Score:

Do you feel you received an adequate education in High School? Why or Why Not?

    Thanks in advance,
    Sam/DTF

      12th Grade
      Washington State
GPA: 3.312 (at my school, we don't rank, because of such small class sizes. There'd be too many people clumped in the middle)
High School Split: Because my class size was only 100 people, there were two regular classes, and one honors class for each core class (English, History, Math, etc. etc.)
They determined this by making us take an exam to get into honors, and by using teacher recommendations
The selection was done pretty fairly, with exception to the fact that some of the most intellectual kids in our class weren't put in honors classes, because they didn't apply themselves, while some of the less intellegent kids were in honors classes because they worked hard. But, for the most part I couldn't complain.

I got a 1720 out of 2400 on my SATs, and a 28 out of 32 on my ACTs.
I got a 720 on my English SAT II, but I forgot to report it to all my colleges (d'oh)
I feel I received a more than adequate education in school. One thing my school stressed was responsability, meaning you earned your grades, whether they were A's or F's. They also never conformed to teach us according to a test. While some of our test scores may have been lower, as a result, the school relied on it's presitge to get students where they wanted to go.

How did the classes at your High School spilt ability level: Advanced math and english (and math x, slower learners math). Towards junior and senior year you could take colgate (college) courses if you were real smart.
How did they determine which class level you took? Placement tests in 5th grade for math, english you got put there if you were good.
Do you think that this selection was done fairly? No, because I don't know how much math was expected of a 5th grader, but I didn't really care because I hated it and would rather do less-hard math.

This survey is going to suffer from severe bias since people are more likely to answer if they did well. Your confidence intervals are going to fail T and F tests and I think you will run into hederoskadasticity.

                Eric's Right. Fuck.

We need some failures on here, T0NE, Panda, you're up.

No don't worry Eric, I have over 50 other surveys, with a bunch load of differentiating data which will both help and kill me. I just needed another 10 samples to meet requirements.

I get to throw out 5 for erroneous causes, so this will probably be useless anyhow, I just need the grade.

Only because I was too lazy to break out my econometrics textbook and look up how to spell it

The other surveys should help. If you are allowed, just use the ones with the most normal distribution of data. Since this is for a Lit class they can't be that strict about skewed results. Unless you had weeks to do this (or a data set from a study someone has already done) it would be almost impossible to gather unbiased results.

And sorry for being a nerd/jerk, I just rarely get to use my econometrics education in every day life
