I got a 990 (there was no crazy writing section when I took it)... But, I still got into every college I applied to.

The moral of this story is.. SAT's aren't everything

Edit: And they weren't community colleges, in case you were wondering... Or even state schools

I got into all the schools I applied to.

Including a few private schools, and one Ivy League quality school.

                    SAT's are seriously overrated.

Grading systems are subjective and differ from region to region. What's a C in one place could be a B somewhere else or a D in a third place. This is especially true when what's being graded isn't a clear-cut yes or no, true or false, you either got it or you didn't kind of assessment.

It's like when you compare GPAs between someone who uses a 4.0 point scale and someone who uses a 9.0 scale.

I'm not saying you can't compare two people from two different grading systems. You just can't get a good reading based on letter grades.

                              My university was on a 12 point system. A+ = 12, A = 11, ... , D = 2, D- = 1. Graduating with distinction required a 10.0 (80%) or higher. I believe 3 people in my program graduated with distinction. You needed a 7.0 (70%) or higher to proceed each year. 43 graduates from a starting class of 396. I graduated with an 8.78, not bad considering I had six 5's and one 2.

In grade 13 Business Admin, my friend Andrew (who introduced me to SS coincidently) and I decided to try and acheive 1 out of 20 on the weekly multiple choice quiz. We figured 1 out of 20 was harder to get than 0 out of 20. Somehow I got 2 correct, while my friend did manage to get just the 1. Shortly after the quizes were marked and returned the PA came on and the principal announced the candidates for valedictorian: myself, Andrew and some other guy. We spent the remainder of the class trying to convince our teacher we failed the quiz on purpose.
