i had the same question when my girlfriend and i found a baby bird....
we kept it in a box and fed it some stuff, and gave it water, and it ended up dying. i think we may be cursed though, because just the other day we saw a kitten get run over on main street. small mamals be warned!Comment

Phone the local council, they should be able to refer you to an expert who can tell you exactly what you should be doing.
If you can't get in touch with anyone, I would recommend keeping it in a box covered with a towel, put a wet sponge in there too so it can drink and maybe some slugs or something so it can eat.

My mom found a baby rabbit in our garden a couple years ago. It had been attacked by a neighbour's cat and a lot of the fur on it's back had been torn off. We wrapped it in a damp towel and drove an hour to the nearest shelter for woodland animals. Unfortunately there is nothing they can do for animals that have been seriously injured so they had it put it down

I'm not sure a vet would be the one to contact. They would not normally deal with animals like bats. I'd go for a wildlife animal shelter if you have one in the area.Comment
