  • Mp3 players and headphones

I know technology develops wquickly, whcih is why i'm starting my own thread rather than looking up old ones.

I'm looking for a 40gb-60gb mp3 player. is the ipod still the way to go?

and I'm also looking for some good headphones- ones that aren't too big but still cover your ear, any suggestions?

The latest 40-60G iPod will have video- the picture quality is really nice so if you care about video at all it's a nice bonus. iPod vs not is going to come down to your specific wants/requirements.

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro are a great sealed headphone that you can get for $75-100 USD. I don't know if you'd consider them not too big, but they are pretty sturdy and sort of fold in at the hinge in the middle.

    What's your price range?

i just realised that they don't make 40gb ipods anymore, and 30 is too small for me. i don't really have use for video either- i want to play music not watch videos. the video on something that size seems a waste to me, and they charge you a lot of more for something that i presume most people don't necessary want. and the 60gb video ipods are £259? ugh. maybe i'll leave it a few weeks instead. thanks, though. guess i should have done a bit of research myself before posting. oh well

I really like my iriver H10 but its only 20gb so probably not what you're looking for. A couple things I don't like about ipods is that they seem to have a lot of markup and you have to mail it back in for a couple hundred bucks if you need a new battery. With the money you save on a comparable non-apple device, you could go for some absolutely sick earbuds like the ones I have. They have amazing sound quality, it blocks outside noise so you can't hear a damn thing besides your music, and I can wear them for hours without my ears getting uncomfortable like what happens with other earbuds.

As I said in that iPod thread:

I have a Vision:M 30GB - I'm not sure if they do a larger capacity one, but they more than likely will. I chose it over the iPod Video after I read up on the features and decent battery life the iPod Video lacks, and the video formats the Vision:M supports is awesome. DivX, XviD, MPEG, WMV. I don't want to spend ages encoding all my videos to mp4 only to do it and then find out that the sound is all out of sync. Plus FM radio, voice recording and customiseable themes and wallpapers are nice little features plus it also extends as a plug n play mass storage device.

The only bugs I have with it is that the screen scratches very easily, and I still haven't bought a screen protector to go with my silicon skin, also, you have to use the docking device to plug into the bottom of the player to load songs, charge and plug the A/V out cable. It is a bit bulky too but I don't really care about that

Also a A/V out cable is not included which would be a great addition to the package, but you can buy the official cables for around a tenner. HAving an A/V out cable is so good, I can just download videos, movies, TV shows and play them on TV. also since your TV may have awesome speakers, you can play the music through, which will save a lot of battery life as the screen powers off while its plugged into the TV.

The battery life on it is 14 hours audio and 4.5 hours video which for a portable media device like this is great.

Have a look on Amazon at some customer reviews- it really helped me make the right decision when it came to buying my player. I'd also recommend you have a tinker with the players in Currys, Dixons etc to see which you prefer to use.

The iPod did not increase in price when video was added. So it was either too expensive to start with or a great deal now that video was added for free.

I see some decent reviews but you will scare small children if you wear these headphones. http://www.headphone.com/productPhot...icn=0020130045

BTW, they're more pads than fully over-the-ear cans (if that matters).

i remember broswing through ipods a few months ago (maybe more) and the price jumped up. maybe this was photo instead of video. either way, i noticed they discontinued their standard ipod and charged more for their new one

                            And it sounds great, too!

They just piss all over every other mp3 player I've seen/tested. Plus they're beautifully designed, unlike most others.
