That is not allowed in league games, neither are macros.

Here's a few high APM games from youtube:

2 of those are instructional videos by two of the best Korean players ever, NaDa and Yellow. All in first person view.

And here's an interview with Guillaume Patry, a Canadian kid turned Korean progamer. Even after many years since he quit progaming and as far as I know is married in Korea and plays poker, he is still the most popular foreign (non-Korean) progamer of all time. There's been several progamers from all around the world as well, for example Legionnaire from Australia, and Nal_Draco, a Polish youth that dropped school in order to be able to play in the so-called Courage League 2 months ago in Korea (a huge tournament with 100s of players where only the ultimate winner gets awarded a progamer licence and is thus able to enter a progamer team). Draco didn't win the tournament, but entered a team nevertheless, since most Koreans supported him - they just love foreign faces on TV.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. He clicks like 100+ times before his first SCV comes out, and why? I guess just to increase his all-important actions per minute count or whatever. How utterly silly. Or am I missing something about the importance of spastic clicking?

First of all, the initial 80 seconds of the replay's worth of clicking are ignored by BWChart, and probably other replay analysis tools too. Any amount of key bashing in that initial phase won't affect the average APM in any way. The main point is, similarly to the stretching done by athletes, to get accustomed to the rather high count of keystrokes per minute required for a somewhat successful execution of any strategy laid out beforehand. Of course, if you look at the first picture, you may see me (alpskomleko) slamming keys in the first minute like a madman versus a similarly chobotastic opponent, followed by a phase where we both forget about macro (unit production and building management, shown as the yellow part of the graph between the upper boundary - total APM - and the lower boundary - micro APM), then suddenly start bashing the buildings' hotkeys and queuing up a bunch of units (building hotkeys and unit production hotkey pressings are shown as purple columns), followed by yet another microing intermezzo - I was rushing with dark templars by the way, and failed. Horribly.

In the next picture you see July (top 3 Zerg, top 5 overall) vs. Nal_GG in a rather low-paced game APM-wise, yet they still manage to pick up speed right from the start and don't get any slower as the game develops. The spikes on the graph denote particularly APM-intensive segments like battles and drops. These guys clearly don't need "idiotic 100 clicks before even the first drone comes out", it's all natural to them.

The third picture speaks for itself. It's the arguably most succesful progamer of all time, NaDa, versus some guy that apparently managed to put enough stress on him in order for our hero to reach an unbelievable 559 APM. Not only that; he started out fairly slowly and then worked his pair of precision instruments up to a breathtaking amount of 9.3 clicks per second on average for almost 15 minutes! You may also notice that there is virtually no moment in which either of the two combatants hasn't been active on both ends, managing his units out in the field while simultaneously and constantly producing new units back at home, scouting out the enemy forces, seeking an opportunity to perhaps sneak in a few units behind enemy lines or place another expansion in an obscure place of the map.

It's things like these that make Starcraft the amazing thing to play, research, watch and dream about that it is. Hardly any other game can better emphasize the huge skill gap between sharks in base that can't count to three, then die, and players that execute more maneuvers in a minute than most do during an entire match.

So the time has come for the Terran Emperor to leave the stage. He got called in the army (airforce), where he will be staying for about 2 years. The biggest progaming name ever on the face of the Earth, leaving the likewise biggest progaming scene. You can visit http://boxerforever.com/ to see what a shitload of Koreans had to say about that.
