I remember reading Calvin and Hobbes, it used to be one of my favorite comics. The adventures of Spaceman Spiff, Calvin's Moms horrible cooking. Good times.

I consider it to not only easily sweep its genre (but whatever most comic strips suck ass), but also to be one of the greatest pieces of media ever made.

It was intelligent and deep with unbelievably well developed and yet still developing characters with a lighthearted overtone and a beautiful style of drawing. It had a wide range of jokes and a versatility that let it seamlessly get all of them off. It's one of my favorite childhood memories and also stays as a pleasantry from when I reread it all via the collections at the tenth anniversary.

Bill Watterson, the creator, knew the commercialism of the genre and sought to keep his masterpiece pure from the coffee-mug/poster/tshirt bullshit that soils and runs so many of those characters into the ground. I'm all for selling out, but here I really respect his decision, and his creation has greatly benefitted from it.

Calvin and Hobbes is fucking amazing.
