Tablet or Laptop?

I am going to school next year and I am going to buy computer to take with me.
So I am wondering if any one has used a tablet pc for school.
I will be taking classes to become a millwright.

Well after 7 years of production welding I really needed something different, This is some thing that I would be geared towards, where some of my talents lie. And I really desire to pick up a trade.
Plus having a son now was incentive to start growing up.

btw how does that question help me?

I know 2 ppl who have them and they love their tablets. I personally wouldn't get one, but seems like the ppl who get them like them ... kinda like mac-heads.

I can't even imagine why anyone would want a tablet, personally. I gotta say, one advantage to getting a regular laptop is that you can get them super cheap. After having a 1500 dollar PowerBook stolen, it's somewhat relaxing to have this 600 dollar Toshiba, which works fine, but if I drop or lose it I'm out significantly less money.

Tablets are just laptops that you can swivel around and use in a "closed" postition and a stylus pen, right?

Only reasons I can think of for getting one is:

1) Non-roman language input like Chinese
2) Drawing (which you could also do with a usb input pad)

If you don't need it, why pay for it?

if you need a lot of diagrams for your notes, tablets are better.
or a pad of paper. whichever.

it also comes with another verson of win xp, that not always works as it should.
but it has a funny voice recognition system, but it hardly works..

Tablets are pretty pointless. They're hard to take notes on, and even if you do, you'd have to print them out to review them. Plus a notebook and a pen never runs out of battery.

if you can, get a pc, much more productive than a laptop.

but if ur really convinced u need portability, then go for the laptop.

they're just better.
