Yes, I'm also aware that it makes the claim that all boys are trying to out do their fathers to gain the acclaim and affection of their mothers and that women secretly want to be men. I still stick to my guns when I say that he was a smart guy, but a bit off keel.Originally posted by genocidal View PostSure he was a womanizer but A.) you have to contextualize it and B.) there is not a thing in the world wrong with that. Absolutely not. He was very correct about some things, and he did light the fire that led to a wide and continous study of psychology, a topic not ever discussed before. He is also correct about the fact that all humans are, for lack of a better word, kinky.Originally posted by genocidal View PostDo you have any proof as to how he is dead wrong on anything or is it just because you don't think you have any sexually deviant fantasies?
But the man did objectify women like no other and I am far from accepting that the edipus (sorry if spelled wrong) complex is true.
Like I said, smart guy, revolutionary even, but he was incorrect on a few things.

I would have to agree and am not really sure where people get these fantasies of cruel punishment from. Just kill the guy and leave it that instead of imagining up all sorts of repressed desires to take out on them.Originally posted by Stabwound View PostI'm not a pedophile sympathizer or anything, but I don't think that pouring acid in their eyes or beating them with bats is the right thing to do. These people are highly disturbed and need mental help more than anything.
Then again, I'm sure I would wind up in jail for murder if someone ever molested my daughter or nieces.

Well I can say with absolute certainty that my stance wouldn't change, either way Im for the death penalty but I'd really prefer we didn't focus particularly on the death penalty and whether it's right or not. I don't want the same old boring debate. What Im more interested in is how some people justify that if someone else goes and kills someone else's loved one, and they want the death penalty for that person, how you could stand up to that person and say no, the death penalty is wrong, only then later to change your stance because someone did something to your loved one to warrant the death penalty. Some have already admitted that they would do such actions. I know there are other examples too besides the death penalty so try not to focus so much on the death penalty but to explain how you can justify changing your stance once the shoes on the other foot, so to speak. For example, someone might feel like it's good that we're going to Iraq to liberate those people, or whatever reason you want to say, that's not the point. Anyways, they might feel like that's a good thing, until one of their loved ones is sent over to participate in the fighting and then only to change their mind and say it's a bad thing. How does one logically justify this 'flip flop' reasoning, in general is what Im wondering.Originally posted by Zerzera View PostThis question is often used in discussions about the death penalty as an argument for the death penalty, nonetheless there are people who have forgiven the murderers of their child/family/lover.
You can't really say what you yourself would do in such a situation until it happens to you.

I'm completely against the death penalty. Not because I think it's unethical, because I would gladly torture and kill someone who did the same thing to someone I love---if it was sanctioned by the law.Originally posted by Reaver View PostSorry this is off topic but something Im really curious how you other guys feel about this. You know how there are people out there that are all so against the death penalty and they do protests etc? Im curious how those people would really feel if someone did something to someone they love that would normally warrant the death penalty, if they'd still stand strong about no death penalty or what.
But the reason I'm completely against the death penalty is because a "jury of your peers" means that 5 out of the 12 people on the jury are complete fucktards who are emotionally compelled by American Idol, and think the Theory of Evolution is a liberal myth from a lunatic fringe.
Humans are notoriously imperfect, and so is the judicial system. Putting an innocent person to death for a crime they didn't commit---all in the name of justice---would be an unforgivable irony.

In America the death penalty is pretty solid. I would feel justice is done when they fry the first black person they can connect to the crime scene. [/sarcasm]

I am not against the death penalty, however I think the death penalty should more be a rare penalty. So only used in extreme cases, not every murder or stuff. Then again, I am perfectly fine without a death penalty too if the sentences are good enough. Which they aren't over here in my opinion. If you can murder someone and the max penalty is 12 years.. that's nothing. (the max penalty here is 18, but you only have to serve 2/3rds which makes it 12. We do have a life sentence but it's rarely actually given)
