People must be rich as shit that they'd be willing to pay thousands of dollars for the thing, but too lazy to know when the pre-order thing comes out. Likewise, you've gotta really want that ps3 to open the fucker and start playing it instead of making a couple thou and waiting a couple weeks.5:gen> man

I mean, honestly, some of these people would sell their cars just so they could buy this thing.

The reason why those numbers are so high is because right now it's just the few people who have pre-orders who are posting their PS3s for sale. Tomorrow when it's released thousands more are going to be thrown into the market. How is that going to effect supply v demand? Also, those people who want them bad enough to bid $3000 for it are going to be in those lines tomorrow, right? So when they get one at retail price because they're sitting out in the cold lined up right now are they going to actually pay that $3000? Hell no.
In Japan this sequence of events led to people buying them just to run home to sell them but coming to the realization that nobody is left to buy it. Anyone willing to spend that much money will manage to get one at Wal-Mart.Spider
