From what I've read about him he was at least responsible for 10,000 deaths via chemical weapons, 5,000 of which are from the village you mentioned. although this result was pretty much a given the minute he was captured several years back, i think the trial became more of a joke than anything, given him an opportunity to make a mockery of the judicial system with his antics and dragging on longer than necessary.

i understand due process but this could have been accomplished much quicker and with far less drama. you'd think they'd have learned something from nuremburg.
