NEW HARTFORD -- A Winsted teenager was charged with murder this afternoon following a series of stabbings at a crowded New Year's Eve house party that left a young Torrington man dead .
The two got into an argument that escalated into several stabbings at a Stub Hollow Road home, according to investigators. State troopers are not giving details of the fight, but say it left 21-year-old Dustin Arigoni of Torrington dead, and Raymond Martin and a third man wounded.
Detectives worked through the day and charged Martin, 17, with murder and tampering with evidence. Martin, of 77 Hinsdale Ave., Winsted, is being held on $750,000 bond and will be arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court in Litchfield.
Police said a fight broke out between Arigoni and Martin during a party with an estimated 30 to 50 people at 349 Stub Hollow Road. Martin and Arigoni suffered stab wounds, as did an unidentified third person who tried to intervene, police said.
Someone called 911 at about 10 minutes before midnight to report that three people had been hurt in an altercation. One was taken to Sharon Hospital, and Arigoni and another person were taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, where Arigoni was pronounced dead. The injuries to Martin and the other victim were not life threatening, said police, who would not specify which hospital treated Martin.
Investigators from the state police Western District Major Crime Squad were gathering evidence at the Stub Hollow Road home until mid-day today. A young and woman who answered the door later in the afternoon refused to say anything.
The state medical examiner is scheduled to perform an autopsy on Arigoni on Tuesday.
