Snow day in SK

Woooooo! It's my first "snow day" ever! I'm 22, been living in Saskatchewan all my life, and no matter how bad the weather got we'd always keep on truckin anyway because we're more or less used to it. I'd see places in the news like London England shutting down due to weather and it always looked like a nice to me. Anyway, today we have a huge blizzard and by about 1pm we all collectively decided it wasn't worth it and the roads, malls, university, basically everything is closed. YAY!!!! So I did have 2 classes before they pulled the plug but for the first time ever I am missing classes due to weather. Woo!

The weather was so bad that a snow drift developed on a road, fairly busy one, and some cars got stuck. I came up behind them and it was bumper to bumper, a few of us were stuck. I could see the car in front of me, but I swear to god, 90% of the time, unless the wind calmed down for a second, I couldn't see the car ahead of him. We were just parked back to back. In fact, and again I am not exaggerating, there were times when the car I was bumper to bumper with, I could not see it. Totally nuts. I was frightened. Eventually got home but a trip that usually takes 15 minutes tops took about 90 minutes. Totally crazy!

So now I am posting this because I have little else to do. Everything is closed and I am stranded at home. Anyway, for the record, Jan 10, 2007, Saskatoon Saskatchewan had a "snow day". Woo!

At school I was jumping into the snowbanks, which were like 4 feet high, and doing dive rolls.

We haven't had any snow here at all. One day back in November and a tiny bit that turned into rain last week. It got pretty cold today though, -10C to -15C I would say, probably more of a wind chill factor thing since I'm in downtown Toronto.

That is the point of this thread, duuuuuuude. We are the place that never stops or gets closed no matter what the weather. The storm we had is probably worse than anything you'd ever imagine never mind see first hand. In all my life we've never shut things down before. The roads that they closed were closed because snow drifts taller than your car developed on them in the time span of about 2 hours. Aside from literally not being able to see many of the roads were impassable. I drove by on my way home from work tonight after they plowed (for jeen and HH, I was on Preston Ave on the part that goes along the university) and the snow drifts on the side of the road were about a foot or more higher than my car. Then there were parts where you could still see tall grass and bushes. It depends on how the wind was blowing. But this one road, the snow drifts went on higher than my car for ... probably a kilometer or at least half a mile. Maybe more.

i live in norway. it snows in may.. and i have never heard of a snow day here, ever.

and for the record, no pun intended on canada. canada is great, except for the french. but the whole consept of snow days are fucked.
