I agree with Vyk. Geraldo kept yelling "its not about illegals its about drunk driving." Well, actually Geraldo it IS about illegals because this guy is in the country illegally and should know to watch what he does carefully so he doesnt get caught.

I think the point is the story is about drunk driving, the media only cares about it and not the other hundreds (probably more) of drunk drivers being involved in fatalities just because this guy is in your country illegally. Attacking the illegal alien problem will do nothing to solve drunk driving and illegal aliens are not more likely to be breaking laws so it's just Fox News trying to scare the public and confuse the issues.

What I'm saying is this guy was caught several times before and allowed to stay, if he wasnt allowed to stay then he would have never driven drunk and killed people. I wasnt trying to say that all illegal aliens are drunks therefore we should crackdown on illegal immigration. Anyways, I agree that there needs to be more done about drunk driving and there is always room for improvement with the issue of border control, just because it sucks now and lets tons of people in doesnt mean we cant still try to do something. This was just a case of prevention. He was let go 3 times for the same issue and on the 4th time he actually killed someone when, since he was illegal anyways, could have been deported and this event would have never happened (lowering prison population down by 1 guy too, Geraldo said something about it being too high).

Hope that clarifies it a bit I didnt mean to sound like I thought all illegal aliens are drunks.

Funnier than that, you can catch Gerry reading his zingers off his fact sheet--you'll see him glance at it when he talks about the statistics of deaths from drunk driving in the state.

Then, at around 4:37 into the video, you see him dip into the sheet for his "Lou Dobbs regenerated his dead career on the backs of illegal aliens!" stab.

Man, they aren't even good at staging stuff.

EDIT - I don't watch very much TV news, was Fox the only one to really go after this "story" at all? I don't remember hearing or seeing anything about it.

USA is often described to the one of the 'bad' guys by some in these forums. Yet the fact that there is a show like Fox, a show like ABC News, etc., demonstrates that we tolerate a wide spectrum of opinion and free press. The fact that people are willing to break the law, risk life and limb to try to enter illegally demonstrates that the US is a worthy place. Compare this to, lets say, China. A place where people are willing to break the law, risk life and limb trying to leave.

Yet the fact that there is a show like Fox, a show like ABC News, etc., demonstrates that we tolerate a wide spectrum of opinion and free press. The fact that people are willing to break the law, risk life and limb to try to enter illegally demonstrates that the US is a worthy place. Compare this to, lets say, China. A place where people are willing to break the law, risk life and limb trying to leave.

John Stewart said something to Bill Richardson a few nights ago. Not one 2008 presidential candidate is going to come out and say, uhhh the middle class, I'm not going to help them. It's in what people do behind closed doors away from the public that really matters; inaction, apathy and just pure lying. The environment (standard of living being the driving force) that flourishes because of the values and ideals of any democratic state be it the United States, Canada or Britain are what brings millions of people here every year.

People today are not locked into perceptions of Good vs. Evil so much and they shouldn't be because even a place so sought after and revered for its freedoms and constitutionally protected rights can do some very terrible things. Looking at Fox News then pointing at some hard left media outlet and saying the state of Western Media is looking damn fine is a joke. Tolerance and acceptance in the main stream for extreme view points is hardly the true mark of a functioning or tolerable democracy.

Missed my point. I was simply saying that many in this forum villainize the USA and yet more people are trying to enter the USA than most other countries (displaced populations due to war aside).

Tolerance and acceptance is an attribute of a democracy, this includes tolerance and acceptance in all aspects of the society (media being only one of those aspects). Given the sweeping generalization bullshit we see these forums from all corners of the world, I doubt many would argue that USA has a monopoly on close minded assholes.
