Rumour Control: Starcraft 2

Blizzard is starting to play the "Lets tease the nerds a bit before the convention" game. I know I love playing that game at night with a razor and my Simple Plan albums, but anyways. Looking at the picture they set a timeline of their major releases from Warcraft 1 to World of Warcraft. See that big question mark at the end? All rumour and conjecture says that's pretty much what we're gonna be dealing with at Blizzcon.

Top 3 Guesses:

1.) Starcraft 2
2.) Diablo 3
3.) World of Starcraft
4.) Second, Unnamed World of Warcraft Expansion
5.) New IP, unannounced and unknown.

What fluffz said, also, it's not that likely that it will be World of Starcraft.

From a business point of view it makes NO sense making that game right now. World of Warcraft is still fucking huge, Blizzard dominates the MMORPG market. What's the point of competing with your own company?

While I write this, I remember that Age of Conan and Warhammer online will be released, this will change the balance around. Blizzard will lose a huge number of costumers and a pile of money. They have already stated that they plan on releasing one expansion to WoW per year, which rules out possibility that they just announce a new expansion. Looking on the timeline, The Burning Crusade isn't there, so it would no sense to add the second expansion but not the first. With a new expansion each year, they will keep getting market shares from the expansions.

The market of RTS games isn't that rough, and Blizzard has Warcraft III as their latest game competing for the costumers. We're talking 5 years since they did anything on the RTS front. This market is much more ripe for a new game, and is my pick for the new game.

As for Starcraft 2 vs Warcraft 4, they are developing story for Warcraft in WoW. I can't possibly image how they can keep the same story going on at 2 games at once, it's never been done.

Oh, and they won't close down the Starcraft servers. That game is golden because you can play it on almost any computer. Not everyone has the money to convert from Starcraft 1 to Starcraft 2. Blizzard will not let that many players down, it will ruin their image.

"It took a good day of calls and emails, but Blizzard just got back to us about the rumor floating around that Starcraft 2 will be announced next month during their World Wide Invitation in Seoul, South Korea.

According to a Korean website, StarCraft 2 is being developed in 3D with a new race and lots of changes for existing units. The site went on to say that additional details would be revealed during Blizzard's WWI on May 19th in Seoul.

When reached for comment today this was Blizzard's official response:

We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present.

i guess things will be revealed on may 19th..... and from the way you look at the blizzard.com site, it hints in a certain way.

Going to be an expansion to World of Warcraft called Quicksand, the point of the expansion is to walk around talking shit to the most people you can to earn experience points, you get bonus for saying EZ after you loot them, or gg in lowercase. Other experience multiplyers include getting mods banned, dissolving clans, and winning clan duels 4v5.
