J. Michael Straczynski is finally going to come out with new content set in the Babylon 5 universe. They're going with Direct to DVD releases planned for July I think. When Richard Biggs died Straczynski canceled the 2005 movie project "The Memory of Shadows", Andreas Katsulas also died in 2004 so the scope of future installments are probably going to be limited unless they can successfully introduce new characters. If the CGI and sets don't look remade or extremely different and the acting is still good they could revive the franchise completely.
Stargate Sg-1 is also coming out with direct to dvd releases planned for the end of this year and another after that (including a third series along side Atlantis), they're filming in the Arctic right now. Ronald D. Moore is also considering doing at least one dvd/tv movie for Battlestar Galactica.
I think the studio executives are looking for an alternative to the season release format since Tivo and PVR technologies (not to mention P2P) are eating away into the advertisement potential.
