  • Future Life Expectancy: 1000+ years

    :greedy:

Reversing the affects of aging, so that we will never 'die' of age. (We can still get ran over, die of cancer, etc)

And he reckons this is possible in 20 years...

Would you take this medication? Imo it would be so awesome, and really opens things up for say, colonizing other planets (since the time taken wouldn't be so much of an issue).

    What do you think? <_<

I don't think I want to live that long. I don't think my friends would either, so I'd have to watch them all DIE.

The BBC science news section is an atrocity and has been for several years now. Take anything posted in the BBC's science section with a mountain of salt.

but look at it this way: you'll be able to send your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandkids money. And on their birthday, they'll get $20 from their parents, then another 20 from their grandparents, then from their great-grandparents, then their great-great-grandparents, then their great-great-great-grandparents...

needless to say, in the future, poverty will be a long forgotten memory. and family reunions will be fucking huge.

No one seems to think of the impact on global as well as local economy this could...nay, WOULD have. Nowadays, and especially in the semi-emerging countries like Slovenia, life expectancy is a great deal higher than it was just 50 years ago. It creates an insurmountable problem for state-regulated pension funds and private insurers alike, creating a huge drag on the economy with the ever rising costs of pensions and health insurance for the steadily growing portion that is the aging populace. In the past 15 years alone we have had three separate reform attempts of the pension system, constantly jerking the retirement age up a few years per decade and raising the portion of taxes that flow into pension funds; soon enough each of us will literally have his very own pensioner at home to care for.

But fuck, I'd love to reach a grand.

Twenty years ago they also said we'd have flying cars in 2000, and no one would have to work because we'd have robots doing that.

Damn, I would so want to be a futurologist, it'd take 50 years until someone would notice I screwed up!

Uhm.. I didn't read the article, but this isn't really a problem cause if you reverse the whole aging thing, people would never have to go on pension..
