Another important factor has to be that the Knight fights with a huge advantage: He has probably fought someone with a quick sword before.

The Samurai however, probably hasn't fought that kind of armor before, and will need to start the fights experimenting on the armor of the Knight.

The most logical scenario would be that the Samurai went for a killing blow on the Knght, only to have it blocked by the armor. This would cause even the most battlehardened Samurai to flinch, since he has never seen anything like that in traditional Samurai warfare. The Knight would then get his chance to land the fatal blow on the Samurai.

If the Samurai vs Knight argument is based on both having extensive knowledge of their opponents, then I'll have to smoke another bowl, and rethink the case.

It's really a katana vs broadsword argument... in which a katana would win in a one on one. The Europeans trained in the art of large battles, the Samurais trained in martial arts and are more attune to microfighting.

If you dress both in gigantic plate armor, the Samurai would be gimped to a punching bag for the Knight.

We're talking allround even battlegrounds, where both gets to bring what they usually bring to mame and kill.

We actually came across that article earlier in our argument, and debated since that time. Though the author really doesn't come to any conclusions, the fact still remains that a knight in a full suit of armor is still less maneuverable than a samurai with very light protection. All it would take is a hard enough blow to incapacitate the knight and bring him to his knees. Once this has happened, the samurai would easily finish him off. The knight's armor is not impenetrable, and the samurai is simply too quick.

Yeah... and a Knight in light protection is still more maneouvrable than a Samurai in full armour so I don't really get what you're saying...

Honestly tho I'm pretty confident the knight will own the samurai since he has a larger range and better protection
