  • canada is awesome

i got back from canada the other day and i have to say it was the best holiday i've ever had. i went to oakville, near toronto, in ontario. i flew into hamilton airport which has got to be the worst airport i've ever seen. i know nickname lives near there so he probably knows what i mean.

anyone else from the toronto area? it would be fun to discuss things

best bit was probably niagara falls. about 8 of us rented a night in the sleaziest motel ever (it's called Motor Inn for god sake). the falls are quite incredible. the casino was also fun to see and go to at night. i lost about $15 and i was pretty drunk so i'm glad i didn't spend any more.

also enjoyed hess village, toronto zoo, cn tower, a blue jays game, the rom, and wonderland. i like canadian pubs. the beach was fun to go to; it was weird going to a beach where you're next to a lake and not the sea.

i also noticed how friendly canadians generally are and how much better the weather is compared to england.

Oh yeah, I remember you telling me you were coming to Oakville I still live there, and work a town over in Burlington.

Hamilton airport is terrible (i hear), as i've always used Pearson Intl in Toronto. Hamilton as a whole is an ugly city...and it smells.

which Jays Game were you at? as luck would have it I went last thursday int he first game vs Chi Sox where we won 2-0

yeah, everyone keeps telling about hamilton and how it smells. as we were driving someplace someone pointed out the factories and said, 'this is why it smells'

we went to a baseball game a few weeks ago. i didn't really know what was going on or remember who it was against but i know the jays won 2-1. i was amazed to discover that you could get tickets for $2 on thursdays! we got $15 tickets though (and we didn't go on a thursday, think it was a tuesday?)

where about it oakville do you live? do you know the gift store Write Impressions? that's where my friend sarah works. also do you know that guy called greg who can't speak who's always in the highstreet in his wheelchair? there's also this other really friendly guy who is out probably everyday who talks to everyone, and talks to every girl in the street saying nice things to them. i don't think he's a perv, just overly-friendly.

ever heard of this guy called Midnight? apparently he's a really big druggy and famous around that area. i saw him once.

you know of the pub the Kings Arms near Allan Street? we went in there a lot

Kings Arms is a check, I don't go there often but I play pool there ocassionally.

        I don't know Midnight, i'm not a druggie myself so I wouldn't need too.

I don't know Write Impressions, but it could be across the street from me and i'd have never noticed. I live in Glen Abbey, sorta a minor section of Oakville, on the west side of town (like right on the border)

edit: and it's twonie tuesdays (for those who don't know, we call our 1 dollar coin a loonie (has a picture of a loon on it) and when they came out with the two dollar coin to replace the two dollar bill, we just called it a twonie

ah nice, next time you're in the king's arms and see this guy bartending in there (one on the left, it's me on the right) pleaseplease say sam from england (sarah's friend) says hi. haha, that would be so cool. his name's todd.

write impressions is right down town, up the street from the LCBO and before the square with that big clock.

and no, i'm not into drugs either but i figured everybody knew who Midnight was, like a minor celebrity.

See, if you didn't think he was friendly, just overly-pervy, then you might have run into Nickname after all.

oh that's what twonie means. i heard a lot of people say it but everyone was being mean enough about me having an accent, not understanding things that are otherwise the norm in canada, etc. so i decided just to keep quiet.

maybe we went on a thursday and not a tuesday then.

I love Canada, been twice to the BC area, and probably going there again next year.

Canada is awesome for being awesome. Like, people go to Mexico for the weird and illegal shit, people go to Amsterdam to get high, but people go to Canada because it's just an awesome place

Edit: I want to go to Ottawa to see them lose the Cup

I moved out of Oakville last year, its a beautiful up and coming city. I had a terrible time with the buses but other than that I loved living there. The motor inn in Niagara falls is dirt, that place is probably $60 a night and if you pay a little more you can get something a hundred times better. I went to Niagara last Christmas with my girlfriend, we stayed in two hotels to even out the cost. We got an $80 night at some place called The Imperial, which looked like a Holiday Inn and a $200 night at the Renaissance which was immaculate.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

yeah, but we were partying at the motel anyway, so we figured that it would be best to go to the worst place seeing as we'll be too drunk to care anyway. that and everyone was skint except me anyway!

i'm glad you all like canada too! the people i know there were complaining that it isn't very good or that it's boring and i was getting mad at them for saying that, and how lucky they are to live there.

you had a problem with the buses? i found them pretty convenient. they were always on time when i caught them and they were cheap. i liked how you could do transfers from the train station too (in england they'd make you pay again. actually i just got home from a friend's and he only lives about 15 min drive from me, cost me £6 for a return ticket. which is what, $14?). can't complain at $2.75!
