I play Burnout on my Xbox 360. I've been playing it since Burnout 1 for the PS2. Nobody knew about it then, it was some balls to the wall racing w/o all the powerups and crap with that arcade feel. Well, since then it's grown and matured into it's 5th installment. When I first heard of Burnout 5 I got pretty excited. Expansive environment, "Paradise City" sounds like a fun place to cause havoc and blow shit up.
Now, I was waiting to see what the title of the game is. I knew it wasn't gonna be "Burnout 5", but something like "Burnout: Dominator" or something like that. Well, it dropped recently. Burnout 5 is going to be dubbed: Burnout Paradise. I guess it makes sense, being Paradise City and all, but I feel like they could have done better.
I know it's real petty and random to be griping on a game that hasn't come out and will probably be good over something as small as a title or name. I thought I had the perfect idea for the title of this game....
Burnout 5
5 in Roman Numerics is the symbol V
The Burnout series has always been about revenge and take downs
A word that begins with the letter V?
Burnout: Vendetta
That woulda been the best title ever, but they lost the chance and now I feel like I should drive down to Criterion Studios and leave a yellow post-it on the window. But, really, what's in a name? It's kinda like Trench Wars. If you make a squad called "Fire", everyone will go "Woooow, what a l33t squad, I so wanna join, lets do TWL!" But, if someone makes the name "Cool Kids Club" or something that's decidedly less "cool" than "fire", people shun it. You can put all the people on the squad 'Fire's' roster onto 'Cool Kids Club' and nobody would still join it.
I guess you can kinda see where I'm going with this. With the growing TWD "upper crust" squads it's harder and harder these days for a new squad to get into the game and with that you'll find the same TWL over and over. The squads may change names, but the people all stay the same. What's the difference between Venom and Syndicate? Even if the new guys wanted a squad name, all the "good" ones are taken by squad whores who will never use it and just hold it to feel cool themselves. Gone are the days of the dark horse in TWD/TWL unless we make a change in our minds and open up to the possibility that a squad with more than one word in it's name could be a viable contender.
