  • Manhunt 2

So, I patiently awaited the release of this what looks to be a great game. However, when I showed up to Best Buy on the supposed release date, I was disappointed, to say the least, that the release of this game has been temporarily postponed due to the rating in America (AO/Adults only) and the banning in the UK.

This upsets me, for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, it's a fucking game. People need to take their heads out of their asses and realize that it’s only a fucking game. Now, it is pretty graphic, but these computer generated images aren’t nearly as realistic as the graphically depicted images in movies, which involves real people.

One of the biggest problems is that stupid ignorant non-gaming public simply assume that video gamers are all 12-16 year olds, and that putting a violent game out is intended for them. It’s upsetting, because just like a movie (whether R or X) you have to be a certain age to purchase or rent it, and that I’ll agree with, in instances like Manhunt 2. This is where responsibility falls onto whom it should—the parents. If they can’t regulate the video games their kids are playing or whatever, then that’s bad parenting (hell if they really want to the can create parental controls on the video gaming systems).

So now Take-Two Interactive has to figure out what to do. I’ve heard many possible things, such as they might create two different versions of the game, that they might release it as it is and just milk the free publicity dry, or that they might go back and edit some of the graphically sensitive materials to fit the ESRB’s “Mature” rating. Because of the production cost and that they need money and what not, I’m almost certain that they’ll go back and make the necessary changes to lower the rating.

This really agitates me, not only because I have to wait for the game, and not only I might get a less-violent game, but because governments are putting unnecessary limits on freedom of expression and art. They are limiting what can and cannot be published in a video game and thus censoring the companies rights and freedoms to express themselves. Forcing them to censor the art they worked so hard to create and having them change what took so long to develop is like telling a museum to hide a painted penis in one of Michelangelo’s masterpieces.

    Anyways, I’m done ranting…. Discuss.

There's not really anything to discuss, we all agree.

If anyone disagrees this will turn into trashtalk, but as a gaming community I doubt it.

They're all just on the Jack Thompson/Hilary band wagon. If they made a game based on the movie SAW where you were say, jigsaw, would that be AO as well? or would they cave in to the moive indusry an exception.

Just something you'll have to deal with in today's world. Knowing Rockstar, their M-Rated version will be just as good as the AO-Rated version and will be just as horrifying. And we all know a "Directors Cut" version will come out later.

SAW the video game? now that would be fun.

how about HOSTEL the video game? don't remember the movie too well but i think it was pretty gory, something about a soldering iron to the eye?
