  • Career ... or is there such a thing?

I am drunk ... I hardly ever get drunk nowadays. I also reckon I make better post when I do get drunk (no comments about my spelling and grammar please!)

TW population is aging. Why and how do I know? Well, simple: no one in their right mind would start playing SS nowadays with so many better free games floating around, and just look at post/read ratio, hun, if you have not figured out, it is going down. Maybe people start to actually use their head before posting?

Anyways, that is not the reason why I am starting this thread today.

What I do want to discuss, is, whether is there such a thing as career. Most people, I reckon, holds a job. Some with higher pays, others more interesting. But how could someone call his/her job a career, knowing what they are doing gives so little contribution to the world? I mean, can the effort of trying to become a CEO to a big company be really called a career?

To me it doesn't. And neither does the attempt to become a billionaire by the age of 35.

Personally, unless it is something that hugely and positive impact human race as a whole, it could not be called a carreer.

Anyways, its getting late so I might continue this later (sigh, Monday again :'( )

A career is basically a job with a future...even mcdonalds can be a career..you can move up to manager, corporate, etc. It's probably better than most 'careers' here actually but thats just one shitty example

To me, a career is something that you have to work to obtain and something you plan to do for a long period of time. If you start working at McDonalds with the hopes of being there until you retire, you could consider it a career. I don't think it's a true career though, because you don't have to work to get the job in the first place. There's no qualifications really.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't post topics
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I don't think you can really tie the concept of a career and positively contributing to society together. Any simple job contributes to society in same way, and rarely explicity negative. Maybe the kid working at McDonald's is selling unhealhy food, so thats negative. But clearly he is contributing something. What about the kid thats working down the street at Subway, making delicious, fresh, healthy sandwiches for one and all? He's contributing too, and I would argue it's a positive contribution. I wouldn't call it a career though.

Yeah, and I wouldn't say Pol Pot's genocides were a career... though he did impact the human race as a whole (especially by letting Telcat live, which is why he is remembered as a bad guy)

A career is simply a choice of profession. No more, no less.

in order to maintain interest in subspace, and these forums, unfortually, this and your thread caught the most amount of interest after 2.5 weeks absence.

                    tell me.

                    what is your point?
maybe im slightly intoxiated, well let's skip the maybe. and let's skip the slightly. But i dont get it... i really dont get it..
                    so again, whats your point?

dont you understand the words carreer, and you dont even understand it after reading a dictonairy or wikipedia? and if you're aiming at the higher cause(be a teacher or such, instead of some bullshit manager at some bullshit finance company): isnt that a carreer also? a carrier as a christian religiran person would be to become the pope for example..

im drunk also, but im confused. so, again telcat, whats your point?
by the way, my vacation way nice. france is a beautiful country. unfortually, french people live in it. but it was nice!

To call for a discussion on the definition of 'career' is like to ask for the meaning of 'life'. My point is (which I did not mention in my previous post), why people put such an emphasize on it, when by definition, it seems so mundane and trivial?

BTW, I do not work for a finance company, I work for a international software house for the banking/energy industry.

Wah, that is very typical! English love everything about France - except for the French people ... unless he/she is a chef. I know you are not English, but that is still very typical :fear:

And thru my few months living in Europe, I know French hate English. But then you are not English so that's ok.
