    HP or LOTR?

    Now that the Harry Potter series has been concluded and perhaps all the prepubescent hysteria has finally subsided, did you find it to be worse, as good, or better than Tolkien's famed Lord of the Rings epic?

    I prefer the latter and although I expect that to be the case with many of you, I wonder if there are those who feel differently.

        LotR is so much wider in every aspect, that I don't know if you can compare them.

        At first, HP was directed for young people, but as it went forward, it got darker and darker. LotR was "scary" non-stop.

        I'd say I'm a big fan of Harry Potter. A bigger one than LotR.

        If we compare movies, I'd definitely say LotR. Harry Potter movies, other than the first two, were made horribly. LotR again kept the same level in all three movies.

        I haven't read LotR book(s), but of what I've heard of my sister, it's a lot better than the movies.

        Anyhow, I can't say 1 or the other, heh..

          Dollar-wise (and what else matters? :grin: ), the Harry Potter movies win.

          First three HP movies grossed, world-wide:
          $1,442,000,000.00

          First three LoTR movies grossed, world-wide:
          $1,061,000,000.00


          Before the flaming begins, note the grin. I just thought I would throw the 'dollar' consideration out there.

              Tell you the truth, I can not really remember what happened in the first 3 Harry Potter movies or the first 3 Lord of Ring movies.

              I would say, they were all worth my $ on the movie tickets. But not worthy enough to be watched twice.

                Lotr is a universe, HP is a good night story for 8 year old kids. HP characters dont fight a fight, they just beat some retarded bad guy.

                    HP for the books.
                    LOTR for the films.
                    Not particularly fussed about the other way round.

                              LOTR books are much tougher then the Harry Potter books, then again LOTR wasn't written for children in the beginning. I would still say the LOTR books are on par if not better then the HP books. But I really loved reading the LOTR books, the description of everything was awesome and I felt like I was in that world. And the LOTR movies are much better by the book then the HP movies. Specially the last few they leave so much stuff out, and they are only 2 hour movies.
                              Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.
