I know there is a youtube section, but I don't think this belongs there. This is a series of videos that was recently brought to my attention by an old friend that I served with. The incident involved was my unit while deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom III.

Please do not move this. This is not some comical youtube video. This was real, and I knew every single soldier involved in these videos.

Each clip is about 5-7 minutes long. If you don't want to watch, then dont. If you don't like them, then don't. But keep all of your bullshit opinions of me to yourself this time.

I always found it wierd how many cameras you find with Soldiers overseas now. I got a dvd with some stuff one of our guys put together.. only watched it once... wasn't actually that fun to watch.

Though I wonder how wars of the past would have been had cameras been so widely available.. WWII... Vietnam?

Do you think having cameras everywhere helps or hampers the efforts of troops on the ground?


Just curious.. not trying to hijack your thread, just figure it's a related question. And in my opinion too many cameras keep us from doing the things that sometimes needs done.


Is it or is it not an unspoken law that people in prison who commit crimes like... killing children or raping 90 year old women will have the shit beat out of them by the guards and other prisoners the rest of their lives?

If someone kills a cop in cold blood do we not typically activate the whole force and find the guy... who is lucky to live long enough to get his fair day in court?

And noone complains about these things.... or at least a small enough minority I don't hear about it.


But in todays battlefield... the definitions of "torture", ROE, laws and treaties we are bound to with groups like NATO or the UN... plus the popularity of having cameras everywhere makes it so hard to do things we need to do. The Army has a dirty job.. I'm not saying we rape and pillage.. but seriously, some of the stuff we get busted for and restricted to is rediculous.

EG: *apologies if I'm rusty on this story, it's been a few years* The commander (Captain) who after having his unit ambushed.. held the leader of the terrorist cell at gunpoint and asked him where the other ambushes were planned for... he got the information he needed, the terrorist lived and the commander's men were saved (as more attacks were planned soon after this one). Last I heard they were trying to court martial this Captain out for holding the guy at gunpoint. Now I don't know if the Captain ever intended to kill the man, I'm kind of hoping he wasn't.. even though minutes before the guy was willing to die by ambushing Americans anyways... but we got what we needed and saved American lives. Why can't we do that? It's war for fucks sake... not even conventional war, but one where the enemy plays real fucking dirty... while we continue to abide by so many rules. No I don't want to stoop to the terrorists/insurgents/bad guy's level.. but I want to help those people.. and it's hard to do by playing with kids gloves.


Shit I got a little off topic.. maybe I should move this to another thread... but I'm sure Lizard doesn't mind.. .... or do you?

I'll agree to the ramble but not to the useless. And I only agree about the ramble to a degree. I think I might have rambled a few times in the past week or two.. actually only three threads come to mind. So three rambles in two weeks isn't bad. My collective rambles should about equal up to your multitude of smaller remarks populating the forums. I ramble, you prefer fragments of thoughts, bullet points and possibly rhetorical questions...
