Honestly, that technology has been around so long, even cheap drives should good.
Depends on what you want to use it for though... anything serious? Or just games and the occasional burning of mp3s..? If nothing too serious, go with whatever the best deal is. With that in mind, you can find them anywhere, but I usually buy from tigerdirect.

Am I confused? I thought I saw a price of between 45 and 70 dollars for the drive he wants. Not 100 or 150... ? If it is between 45 and 70- good deal. If it's 150- bad deal.
