My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

The principle of paying the devs to keep adding more content, and to keep working out bugs and balance issues that will arise?
What would WoW be today, if it weren't funded to keep refreshing itself with new content? Would you expect all that for free?
If you had to pay 10$ to the company just because they were greedy, and didn't do shit, I'd agree with you.Da1andonly> man this youghurt only made me angry

No, it's the fact that they intentionally gimp the game so that you'll give them money to be able to play the real thing. Imagine Diablo 2 requiring a payment to play Hell difficulty or Hardcore mode. Or having to pay to equip Hell difficulty equipment. Originally, in Hellgate, there was normal, nightmare, and hell difficulty, but they cut out hell and changed it to "elite" and slapped it in the pay-to-play perks.
There is a difference between paying for new content and paying to have a non-gimped game. They removed stuff that should have been in the base game, and charge you to access it. Paying feels more like it completes the game, rather than adds anything to it. Also, most games get free patches/bug-fixes, so I don't see why I should have to pay for them with this game.
Within 6-12 months, the pay-to-play version is going to be so wildly different from the free version that no one is going to want to play the free one. It will be kind of like Guild Wars: you're free to play just the base game, but it's boring and pointless unless you actually buy the expansion packs.
Also, this is an ongoing monthly charge. The minute you stop paying them, you lose all of the perks and content you've paid for. Haven't you ever picked up an old game years later and started playing again? Some people have been playing Diablo 2 for 7 years, which would have cost something like $1000 if they charged to play like Hellgate does. If you pickup Hellgate again a few years later, you have to shell out money again if you want to play the real game, which you've already paid for.
There are many people that would want to play only single-player. Why should they have to pay a monthly fee?
If you support this game, we're going to see more games with this business model in the future.sdg

I have to admit, this changes things.
There's not much to subscribe to right now, but I'm guessing more content will be added later. As soon as we get more content for the subscription, I think its worth it.Da1andonly> man this youghurt only made me angry

So is this one of those games that require you to drop whatever it is that you're doing outside the computer room in order to "be good" at it? Or can I actually get something out of it while studying and practicing other activities giving me about 1-3 hours a day to actually sit down and play? I've been looking for a real casual mmorpg for a while (WoW for example is not a casual game no matter what the developers say) but I'm thinking they don't exist.sigpic
What is even the elblow?

This isn't a MMORPG, this is a online ARPG!
From what I've seen so far, there's no need to play this hardcore. I played the beta in my own pace, and so did everyone I've talked to that has played the beta. There's nothing so far that indicates a need to play a certain amount of time.
This is one of the things I really like about the game.Da1andonly> man this youghurt only made me angry

this is pretty awesome, I think I got as far as I could with the demo. I started off with a blademaster and basically just hacked my way through zombies and did alll the quests.
a couple of things
- peg leg was sick, it reminded me of diablo
- the sound of boxes breaking was similar to diablo, loved it
- i like the chests, it's a nice way to make the diablo style of play more futuristic
- i love using two guns and rolling back my scroll button until im in FPS mode, it's great to just play a straight shoot dead type of game once in awhile
a few questions/concerns
- is this going to be a mmorpg? i doubt it, in my head i think it would probably be similar to diablo and guild wars ( with a slight glance to posts above I think it's going to operate the same way Guild Wars does)
- if this resembles everquest in the slightest way I'll break this game into pieces, I've been hooked on games but Everquest is cross between heroin and crack, it's fucking disgusting, they rob you of $10 a month then $40 every time there's a fucking update or expansion which was every ten minutes with that game. I've seen lives destroyed over games like Ultima Online or Everquest, shit I didn't have a social life for 3 years because of UO
- Fuck WoW, I played closed beta and when you had to pay and the game was routine, same shit different day, the only neat thing was dungeon crawls and the PVP battle grounds but to even compete you need to do so much tedious shit, leveling is a bitch and not fun, if you say you like quests after WoW you're fucking lying out your teeth. The platform of the game didn't change from level 10-20 to 50-60, some things looked cooler after awhile but it was the same shit over and over. At least in UO there was houses, a player created economy, a real sense of guilds or factions and for the sad and desperate people out there a sense of social communication. WoW is full of shit piss cunts who steal their dad's credit card every month to buy time, luckily their fathers buy so much porno when the word 'WoW' comes up in their monthly statement they pass it off as another porn they bought.Last edited by Cops; 10-25-2007, 02:07 AM.it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did
