This is why it will never happen. NAFTA benefits the US and as long as it continues as such, there's no reason for change.

Maybe down the road quite some time, Canada and America will create a joint currency, but I really can't see that happening. It just wouldn't be a sound and prosperous idea for the United States who's just fine on their own right now.

            No

This will never happen as the American farmer would have to stop fucking over Mexican farmers.

I guess in America it's much the same as in Europe. Our market isn't free, it's very well protected. There is no way farmers from 'third world countries' can really compete on our over-subsidized and over-protected markets.

"The inequality between the man and the beast doesn’t end here. For the amount of subsidies a cow in the developed world receives is almost twice the annual income of an average Third World farmer." source

Our own farmers first, then thEy can supply whatever more we need.
This benefits us because we keep our own farmers alive, so we won't be totally depending on other countries. Even though it's expensive, the money doesn't flow out of our Union.

You wouldn't need to have separated markets with your neighboring countries if you could really trust them and are willing to do business on equal terms.
I think it would be possible for the US to do that with Canada.

American's economy is weak right now, The Mexican economy has always been weak. In the short term I could see this bolstering the American economy and actually bringing Mexico out of the slum that we've created. Although, like many people have said to actually make this work we would have to have fair and free trade.

No offense Squeezer but your economy is in the decline, Canada surpassed your dollar (not only because America's economy is going downhill but the Canadian Dollar just out performed). If our countries (dare I say Mexico? or is that just out out the question?) created one currency it would help stimulate our economies. If America doesn't really want to do it, I'm fine with how things are going.

NAFTA has killed the U.S. Manufacturing Industry. It has not been a benefit at all except for the corp. owners that move the manufacturing facilities to Canada or Mexico and keep there Offices of operation in the States. Subsidized freight alone that only benefits Canadian and Mexican freight coming into the U.S. has been a big problem. It costs less for a dedicated truck to ship from Vancouver to Miami than it does for me to ship the same truck from Philadelphia to Miami...Nice that the U.S. subsidizes the freight for them and screws over their own manufacturers.

This is how China next year is getting around the tarrif's to import to the U.S. The U.S. put a tax on goods shipped directly from China to the U.S. that are extremely high in re. to the new Chinese Auto's to be introduced next year. The loophole was that China will now deliver as well as open factories in Mexico and use NAFTA to import to the U.S. from Mexico.

NAFTA is one big f'd up deal that screws the U.S. Idustrial workplace. Thank's to Bill Dixie Crap Clinton signing it into law.

Don't believe me, just ask anyone from the UAW how it has impacted their union members.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

Our economy may be in decline but it is still far and away the most powerful economic force on the planet. Not to turn this into a Canada vs. US flamewar, but Canada owes some of it's success to the big brother down south.

On top of that, most US leaders, and Americans for that matter, are too stubborn and arrogant to consider Canada a legitimate power.

I say again, I see no reason for the US to do this in the near future. I think things would have to get a lot worse for Americans to even consider that.

And you owe us that money for all that water, lol. Yeah let's not get into a U.S Canada fight, the Europeans and Americans duke it out enough for my liking.

I completely agree with you when you say that we're not considered a legitimate power, which is not completely true. Canada has begun re-arming it's military which even for a liberal douche like myself knows that we need an army, we can't pretend like we can be completely secular of America on foreign policy when we don't have the means to back it up. Canada use to have a rich tradition of armed forces but for the past twenty years we've basically let our military and navy fall to shit, it's turned into a joke about how we'd probably send row boats in a national crisis. I'm glad to see that the HMCS Toronto was one of the first Nato ships to respond to the crisis in Yemen, it's great to see Canadian troops doing things internationally, maybe at some point the American ignorance you speak of will eat it's words.

Plus I don't see the American economy staying that way, it might be in the decline but America has dominance and at some point they will bounce back. I actually have a long standing argument with most of my friends, I have $2500 of government loans that I was going to invest into an ING account that will give me about 4.5 percent interest but I was thinking of first turning that cash into American, a lot of my friends have openly spoken against this idea and even laughed at the idea but truthfully I have 4 years with this cash and possibly more loans as time goes on and I see America in the next 3 years getting back ahead of Canada. (The student loan is interest free). America needs to simply cut spending (cough war) and you'll see the economy go from 97 cents American to 1 Canadian dollar to 90 cents Canadian to 1 American dollar.
