Post your favorite RPG of all time and the system it was for.

Also, has anyone played Xenosaga or .Hack Infection yet? Just wondering if they are worth checking out or not.

.hack's storyline is much better than the actual game play itself. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good game. The combat mechanics are a lot like Square's Kingdom Hearts. In other words, it won't attract more traditional RPGers out there, but is good for a general audience.


Oh, and if you need to explain what RPG stands for to someone, chances are they won't have much to add to this thread.

Some of my favs in no particluar order:

Chrono Trigger, SNES (still own)
FF 3, SNES (still own)
Breath of Fire 1, SNES (still own) can't wait for BOF 4 on ps2.
Zelda, SNES (still own), even though not completely an RPG.

Not sure why all of my favs are for SNES but maybe that is when I actually had time to enjoy the games.

I was pissed when I first saw the new Zelda. I thought they were going to use the N64 graphics, but then they made him into a cartoon. Now that I have played the demo I am changing my thoughts toward it. Very different approach to a game, especially one that has had so much success in the past.

Has anyone played Phantasy Star Online for GC? My friend almost bought it but he wasn't sure if it was supposed to be any good or not. Plus, you need to buy all the crap just to play it online.

I would only recommend .hack if you can find it really cheap. It's a very repetitive and bland game, and there's not a lot to do.

Never heard of nethack, is that for PC? Is it the same concept as diablo where you just tap the mouse to attack over and over and over again?
