  • Motorcycle Insurance

Why is it so freaking expensive? I mean to the point where it tops car insurance in the 19-21 age group. Once you hit the age of about 25 though, you get the good rates of say $40-$150 per year.

Anyone here a rider? I (will) be having a Ninja ZX-6R within a few months. I've been shopping around for a good quote, any suggestions?

Because the odds are against you, being 18 years old, to become 19 years old on such a vehicle. (of course this does not apply not you, only to the others)

    That's why.

I've had a mopet (Honda MT5), 50km/h is the speedlimit, but i upgraded it to 110km/h. Then I turned 18, being all into motors, i went for my motor license. I woke up in the middle of the night, before the lessons, having a vision -not a dream- of having an fatal accident. Scared the shit out of me and made the point never to step on motor

      Moto Insurance Is Expensive Because,

      1. A 600 Can Do About 190mph Some Can Do Over 200

      2. Your Age, You're A High Risk

      3. High Risk Applies To Cars Also

Because young people with Ninjas have an alarming tendency to run themselves into expensive, fiery explosions.

                Car: $600 / 6 mo
                Bike: $100 / 12 mo

Get a more reasonable bike and your insurance will go down. The ZX-R6 is a deathwish really. Go get an older bike that wont propel you into a fiery crash and the insurance will go down. I have an 85 Honda sabre and the thing is plenty fast. It has nearly 80HP and I think that is a lot. The ninja is going to be over 100. If this is your first bike, I sure hope you have a lot of self discipline to not go open throttle everywhere.

btw, why the hell would u buy a ninja, let alone a kawasaki for a crotch rocket? they have butchered the ninja form what it used to be, used to be my fav bike in the 90's now i hate it lol

                      or go yamaha

or even a gsxr 750, i got a few friends with this bike, and a few with yamahas, id be tehe first with a cbr

Heh, Well I've looked into dairy farm and they have relatively low quotes as long as you keep self-injury off the tabs. Even liability is low to a cool 400 a year in my age group. ( fine print being that if you 'pass away' during an accident all insurance is void, small wonder)

About my 'control'. Yes this is my first bike and I intend to ride it to Stony Brook daily from the south shore mall area *(all you LI'rs, a heads up); roughly a 50-60 or so mile ride north. Most of it will be on the main streets as there is no expressway north bound.. or so I'm told. There is also a certain someone I'd like to passenger so that should sate my desire to rip the throttle.

I like the Ninja's design and *shock*.. fuel economy for an everyday bike thats got spunk without being over the top. If I wanted pure speed, I'd move more to a honda CBR.

Btw Heaven, nice gold wing. But can you lift her after she's laid down?

This is the 2007 model i'm looking to purchase for $7,599

I guess money likes his pipes because all the ninja super-sport and sport are now using the more aerodynamic under saddle exhaust.

off beat: where can I find saddle bags/ tank bags that match my pictured model? All the places I've looked assume I have a cruiser or touring bike. In other words, where can I get saddle/tank bags that fit for sport bikes?

The bike's over 800 lbs. I doubt i'd be able to lift it by myself. I don't even wanna think about dropping my bike. It's my 4th bike in 20 years and my first 3 bikes i've dropped just once each. Luckily the damage with each of those drops were very minor.

                              It's not a goldwing tho... It's a '06 Yamaha V-Star Royal Venture. :P
