I believe in the Greek mythology.

At the risk of over-simplifying the history, most, if not all mythologies (ancient religions) have their origins with Nimrod (Noah > Ham > Cush > Nimrod). He was worshipped as a god & king and was responsible for gathering the people to build the tower of Babel. He survived the confusion of tongues after the tower of Babel was abandoned and as a result, became known by many names from the the newly created languages.

how can pastors give sermons other than what is the true word of god, i mean how can the pastor deviate such as include his own words in the sermons, wouldnt the only true thing be to do is read from the bible.

Yeah, what bete noire said is pretty much agreeable. The whole group of spiritual books and sermons is just repackaging the Word in terms that modern society can understand. I mean, I've heard about a bible that uses slang and none of that "thy/thee" stuff to really get the point across.

No one in this day and age knows what Jesus looks like.

How can the pictures of Jesus represent the embodiment of an abstract idea of a universal, overarching, supreme being.

Existentialism is the idea that you create your own purpose or reason. Christianity holds that God does. The two obviously conflict.


If you're defining philosophy as the love of knowledge/reason then I'm a die hard philosopher. It is good to seek reason and wisdom. Secular just means separate from the church though, so I guess you could define a movement as secular.

I think everyone should question what they believe in and why. God asks us to have faith without seeing, but He also allows us to find Him rationally through study. It was stated in some other thread that no matter what you believe in it takes faith. No one knows for certain with unarguable proof the answers to the fundamental universal questions. The idea that the individual's mind is supreme is not a Biblical belief. Christians believe that God is the architect of the individual's mind and is thus greater than it; however, that does not mean that He created something unimpressive. If all you can truly be certain of is that you exist because you think then reason will get you no where. If you can't trust your senses, matter, or reality itself than there are no truths with which to be logical. I hope that answers your question.

... so fellas, it doesn't really matter what you believe. It's not believing in the wrong thing, or the right thing. What matters is that you believe in something. It's not my fault I'm a christian, nor is it your fault to be a non-christian. It's not my concern to convert you, and when you do attack the message, it's not me you're attacking, it's the word of God (that you may or may not agree with). So please, if there's going to be discourse, then at least make it civilized.
