How can a magazine like Time pick Vladimir Putin.. I obviously havent read the article, but if they sign praise to the guy.. no respect.

You don't have to like the person to realize why they fall under the TIME's Person of the Year candidacy.

He's probably one of the most neutral of the candidates, when you look at some of the others:
Ghandi
Hitler
Stalin
Pope John XXIII

I don't compare yes, but Hitler was in that title in 1938.

Anyway Putin has a respect for establishing good economy in Russia, and making progression overall.
Tho in my opinion, he play dangerous game by uniting with radical Islamic countries or other West opposer's. I mean, after they really put chaos in Chechnya who are of course Muslims who share united views with other radical groups, its weird to see Russia supporting countries that support those groups with weapon, training and money.

Its also seems that Putin really try to bring back the glorious respect of the USSR to Russia today by bashing United State over that stupid missiles program they wanted to place in east Europe. Funny if anyone in Russia think that U.S actually threaten them.
Its not like Russia are going to be soon Communist again and start to cool their relations with U.S. just sit down and solve it on the table ;\

Anyway, Putin is helping Iran on their nuclear energy development, and as someone who live in a country that getting threaten by Iran leader to be wiped out, I cant be happy about it. Tho, I don't believe Putin cares much, and I don't even believe that Iran will actually try to attack with nuclear. The only big issue that Putin is getting dumb in this part, is by the fact that Iran support terrorists who might be crazy enough to use a dirty bomb. It might turn to be that it will get back into Moscow.

Israel and Iran are just pawns FarScape. Russia under Putin has become more dangerous, he does want to reignite Russia into its former glory and that means being more combative and hostile with the West and more brutal on the former Soviet states.

This shouldn't be taken as an endorsement by Time, the award merely reflects his influence in world affairs.

I know that Kolar, actually all the situation here in the middle-east back until 1991 was more of influential war between US and Soviet Union.
As you said, and as I said, he wants to bring back Russia to be again a civilization that dominate with USA and now newly China.
Its also about the power that he lust, and fall love with.
