I've got a friend who sold his MacBook that he bought only a few months ago, just so he could get the MacBook Air now =x.

Its fashionable, what else is there about it that would make someone get it?

Eventually, yes. Case in point I got a 2GB flash drive on sale at Staples for $16 a couple months ago. A year ago it would have been $40 or more.

Solid state means that it's like a USB Flash drive. Everything is stored in transistors electrically and there's no moving parts like you would normally store data on a big magnetic disk that spins (normal HD). Less moving parts means less ability to crap out on you.

Flash Drives are awesome especially if you need to transfer large files, I made the mistake of getting a 500 gb normal hard drive that will probably break if I brought it with me to school. Do you have a flash drive, do you think they'll come down in price?

A regular Harddrive is something like a gramophone player and tape recorder combined.

HAhah who cares Apple sucks I think I confused it with whatever apple used to call their wireless hub. That round thing that you plug into the laptop that gave you wireless that I remember using 7 years ago.

Personally, my biggest problem with it is that the battery is fully integrated (a la iPhone, iPod, etc). It's going to be fun to see how Apple handles dead/dying laptop batteries, and how much it's going to cost the poor saps who have to replace them.

I read earlier today on the stupid captivate news while going up on the elevator that scientists have developed a way to make ion batteries have 10 times the amount of "charge" a battery can get, i can't wait to see an ipod play for a whole day without being shut off.

I think this will be great! I've rarely ever used the CD rom in my laptop for the last 4 years... the only time I really ever used it was to play Diablo.

I give apple credit for using aluminum on the case instead of plastic. Probably a little less breakable that way. This is of course first generation technology, and we all know that there will be flaws. Look how the iPod evolved over the last 5 years. I'd probably get something like this in conjunction with a PC desktop in a few years, when I have the money and perhaps the need for one. Also after apple works out a way to make the battery swappable.

And how compatible is MAC with windows? Like I have a laptop from Vaio right now and a desktop computer, and it is easy to work in between and stuff. I love the Office Vista package, and from what I have seen the MAC word program (I forgot what its called) didn't look as good. So basically, how easy is it working both with MAC and Windows interchangeably?

perfectly, boot camp is easy to use and is easy to switch into. I generally use word on mac when writing and it's not exciting but it's not all that bad, I prefer open office on windows but I use word on mac out of convenience. I haven't heard much about pages but from what I hear it's not bad.

Parallels makes using windows function with mac simultaneously, I need to use mac files and news wires on windows at the same time so I load up Parallels and it's a breeze, it's like pushing alt f4 and it switches back and forth.

I spent 2 grand on my mac book and it's not even a pro, I don't think the cost is completely outrageous.
