I thought it was the best movie as well as the best written. I've got to agree with Aquatiq, No Country for Old Men wasn't bad but it only won because of the serious lack of competition. I thought the overall standard of movies that came out this year were a lot better than the last couple years but there wasn't any that blew me away.

I'd rather have a few amazing ones rather than a whole bunch of okay ones. This year had too many 'okay' movies in my honest opinion.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

LOTR didn't win on merit, IMHO, it won on the fact that it was the last of the greatest series in movie history, and the other two never won.

Yeah, I didn't care for any of the movies this year. Transformers shoulda won best visual effects over ... the Golden Compass? Wtf? The Transformers looks far more realistic over stupid digital animals. But the thing is none of the movies up for the best picture were a lot of lesser grossing movies. Juno probably was the biggest.

Yeah, because bigger gross means the movie is better. What the hell is wrong with you????????????????????????

No, because bigger gross means more people saw it. And the more people who see it, the more people who would care or not if the movie won, smartass. The ones up for the win weren't hugely grossing movies, so it wasn't as important to the average person as years before. It happens.

I thought No Country for Old Men was really good, I actually liked it more than Juno. Both were good movies, but I agree that there wasnt really much competition this year.

What if a movie was really hyped up big, and it got a big grossing, lots of people saw it, 80% of the people hated it in the end.

Another movie did not get as big of a grossing, but it did get a 90% approval rate from everyone who saw (meaning 90% thought it was great or better).

What the hell does grossing say about the Oscars and where they should go?
Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

You guys are taking my shit the wrong way. I never once said any of the movies didn't deserve it for not making in the bank. If that were the case, then Norbit and Transformers got snubbed.

The point was going back to Aquatiq's quote which I quoted, which obviously means I'm refering to her point. That's what the "quote" feature is for, btw, if you guys just started here.

Aqua was saying how she wasn't excited about the movies up this year. And I said how a lot of the people I know feel the same way, because the movies that were up this time around weren't hugely mainstream movies in the way that they didn't make bank like others nor did they really feel like seeing. I never woke up thinking "Hot damn, I need to go see No Country for Old Men and then sneak into There Will be Blood."

Did anyone check out the Jimmy Kimmel post-Oscar show? I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Kimmel but this takes the cake as one of the funniest things I have seen on television.

I guess flawless was too strong of a word. NCFOM and There Will be Blood were both visual treats, but will both be largely forgotten in 20 years. But, you have to agree that both of those movies are more deserving than Crash or Shakespeare in Love, or the multitude of other crappy movies the academy has awarded.

I honestly think No Country for Old Men will live on, simply because of Anton Chigurh. He's such a terrifying and memorable character.

No they won't. NCFOM is a better Silence of the Lambs then Silence of the Lambs is and it's been 20 years for that one. There Will Be Blood is just great.
