  • Buying clothes from AMRIKA, question about sizes.

So I'm thinking of buying a sweater who's impossible to get over here, so I was wondering if the sizes in clothes S M L was the same wordwide?

I'm a little curious cause there's a XS on that site too, and maybe that equals our S here? Cause maybe the americans are a little bigger and the sizes are one notch down? Have to be sure, cause the shipping fee is gonna rape my visa card.

And if anyone is wondering about the XS/S issue, I clock in at 182cm, 84kg/185 american units. Need it to be a little tight, and keep me warm for training purposes.

XS: 76-81 cm chest, 71-76 cm waist
      S: 86-91 cm chest, 76-81 cm waist
      M: 96-101 cm chest, 81-84 cm waist
      L: 106-111 cm chest, 84-86 cm waist
XL: 116-122 cm chest, 91-96 cm waist
XXL: hopefully you don't have to go this high

not exact but it should give you a general idea. you might also want to go one size bigger for a sweater, because overly clingy sweaters suck.

not to mention if you ever accidentally toss it in the dryer, it'll shrink. that's what dryers do. they shrink things.

Thanks for the quick answer, was trying to google around but couldn't find anything.

I guess I can conclude that the letter sizes are similar all over the world, +/- 3cm.

Actually, an M in America is a L in, at least, the Netherlands. I know this because the first time I bought in the US all the stuff I bought was a wee bit too big, some dryer action fixed that right up, but yeah the US has bigger sizes than, at least, the Netherlands. I do not know about the rest of Europe, but when I buy stuff coming from the US I add 1 size to know the Dutch size.

I bought a medium shirt from some fuck in Taiwan once and I swear to god I thought it was a child's shirt when it came (it actually wasn't). Those people are so damn small.

as the world spins, gravity causes things to push into themselves. dryers create gravity and push the clothes in on themselves and shrink them.

You probably need an L considering. There is a slight difference though, the few L shirts I have my father brought from the states all are substantially larger than a dutch size L as gal already said. Not as big as XL, but somewhere in between. I'm about 186 fyi.

I ordered the small, even though I'm at that size, most of my clothes are S or M. It depends on your body frame, style and what you're used too I guess. My friend at 196 runs around in medium clothes.

I'm still a little worried though, since galleleo said exactly what I was afraid of, gonna shrink the fucker if it's bigger than our S.

                          EDIT:SHRINK

I guess it partially depends on where you're buying it from. My boyfriend weighs about 135 and he wears shirts that are size small, at least from Abercrombie, Hollister, and the like.
