  • reason for lack of women artists?

well, i know this is a boring topic but hopefully one of you is educated enough to give a shrewd guess at what might be the reason why or for what reason are women artists not recognized as much as males. By artists i mean...painting wise, sculpting, whatever, anything but music artists...

please discuss, i need help with the paper and i run out of things to say...
    appriciate it o/

Depends on the era you are looking at.
Remember, women's rights weren't as recognized as they are now, and yea, being creative wasn't a part of what a women should be doing. There were probably a lot of female artists back then, but big artists would either not take them seriously, or they could take their art and put their name on it. That's what happened for some women musicians before.

Unless you are talking about more recent times in which I say you are not looking at the right places.

In general, it's because our society has had a major gender inequality problem since the beginning of time. It's called Gender Stratification. Research it.

when you made this thread did you not think that you would get any reasonable answers besides the usual "there's no female artists unless they are showing some new creation of a sex technique or a new recipe!" --like response?

You're not asking a clear question. The thread title asks for the "reason for lack of women artists," eg, why less women become artists than men (in your opinion). Then in the thread body you ask about why artists who are women earn less recognition. The second question is obvious and boring- misogyny is as misogyny does. The first merits some examination, at least to determine whether the underlying claim is true.

There are plenty mainstream female artists today. To name a few:

                              Laylah Ali
                              Sally Mann
                              Barbara Kruger
                              Jenny Holzer
                              Kara Walker
                              Kiki Smith
                              sigpic
