something i've noticed because of gas prices

What I'm wondering is, are people who buy new cars in the US still buying those huge ass SUV:s and pickups, even if they always drive alone?

Or is the high gas price finally making people move to smaller cars that consume less? Quite a big difference in expenses when changing to a car that uses half less fuel!

short answer is yes, but b/c they are sheep and they follow w/e trend exists (ie the trend towards eco-friendly cars)

while i think money had something to do with it, they were paying outrageous prices for those SUVs in the first place.

not to mention how obnoxious it is to be anywhere near an SUV in a car since it blocks your vision. I mean if an SUV is making an opposing left turn to you, no way you can see around it to see if it's safe to go. Also all SUVs have really tinted windows so you can't see through them to see if it's safe either. Not to mention that their hood is higher so you can't see over them to make right turns. Or the fact taht they very often take up more than their fair share of parking spaces, or make on-street diagonal parking extremely dangerous b/c you can't see to back into traffic.

hopefully these assholes see how dangerous and and unfriendly they make the road and that's why they're changing vehicles, not b/c of greed and prices

I think they're having a hard time pushing cars that are gas guzzlers, I know we certainly are. Domestic cars of America and Canada ie Ford, GM, etc are on their way out the door. There is a select few who can afford these cars and the cost of gas but I think most economical people are looking towards alternative means of transportation.

Answer: Stupid rich people will still drive their SUV's but most people regardless of how rich they are really don't want to pay an arm or leg to drive their big piece of shit. Middle class people can't really afford them anymore, they're getting dumped off at dealerships and will be sold for nothing. I heard on the radio that a SUV may take up to 6 months to sell, good luck finding someone who can a) afford it b) wants it c) isn't going to offer you half of what it's worth.

none of my friends except females and homosexuals drive cars (unless they drive a car like a V8 mustang or any GM car made until 1975). none of us are really rich... we just need them. i bought a compact pickup, gets good mileage but i can carry up to a ton.

last night we had a flash flood and i spent the night driving around delivering gasoline and ferrying people. the only fuel-efficient cars i saw were half-submerged in water

Trucks are a lot different than SUVS, I'd drive a truck out of necessity just not an SUV because there's no real need for it.

This. It's so annoying when I'm in my car, which is lowered, and I'm trying to see around a giant Denali or Armada. I usually have to wait for them to move because it is absolutely impossible to see around them - my line of vision is at the top of their wheel.

And it's true that some people are opting not to buy an SUV, but the rich people will always drive one. I work in a super rich neighborhood (home of the Limited Brand... full of snobs) and there are at least five Hummers and Range Rovers parked in the Kroger parking lot at any given point. I just want to yell at them

we do alot of deep driving (i.e. rollin 8 deep) and SUV's work

it's more efficient to get 1 SUV out to the ranch as opposed to 3 or 4 cars or trucks. plus, they have more traction (truck beds = no weight on the rear wheels) and so they are more useful off-road

but yeah, i think SUV's are pretty useless once you leave the south.

as far as being an obstruction... i don't think they are, really, unless you're in a lowered car like panda (which is even dumber than driving an SUV because at least most SUV's could actually go offroad, whereas most lowered cars would never fare well on a racetrack - but this is my opinion, southerners aren't too hot on rice rockets). dealing with an SUV on the road is as easy as paying attention to the traffic. don't ride 3 feet behind an SUV and you'll be able to see around them.

and no, i wouldn't drive 15 miles to drop off any chick and all that way back unless I'm getting laid when I get to her place, or she's coughing up alot for gas. Even with either (preferably both) of those options, I still wouldn't do it daily.

yeah I don't think the guy was being a bitch, 30 miles daily or even once or twice a week is harsh. My girlfriend drops me off sometimes from her house and it's literally a 3 minute drive. I sometimes drive and she pushes the pedal, it's fucking awesome.
