            and strikes again, and again

two stories i noticed in local news over the past 2 days have me even more pissed at our "War on Drugs" mentality:

The first is about a field of marijuana they found in rural SC:

Sheriff: $11M in marijuana plans found in Chester County

CHESTER, SC (AP) - Chester County deputies say they have found $11 million worth of marijuana.

Sheriff Robby Benson tells The Herald that someone surveying land for lumber Tuesday found the field of about 11,000 marijuana plants.

Authorities destroyed the field, which was about nine miles west of Chester.

Benson says the field had an irrigation system and fertilizer and deputies found two sleeping bags and food nearby.

It's the third multimillion dollar marijuana bust in Chester County in the past three years.
            ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2nd story i'm suprised even made headlines:

Bath man facing drug charges after search yields marijuana

AIKEN, SC (WIS) - The Aiken County Sheriff's Office arrested a Bath man after investigators found marijuana Thursday during a search his home on Dunbar Court in Bath.

Authorities charged 32-year-old Ronnie L. Wilder with distribution of marijuana (two counts), possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half-mile of a school and distribution of cocaine.

As a result of an undercover investigation, narcotics investigators and SWAT about 5am served a search warrant at the home, where they seized nearly a quarter pound of marijuana, a handgun and more than $1,000.

Wilder was being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.
            ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st one pisses me off b/c it's obvious that marijuana is by far the biggest cash crop in the state (and probably every state in the US), yet they willingly destry millions of dollars of goods that could be taxed and sold to help the economy if it weren't illegal to grow and sell. Think of all the revenue that would stay in the hands of US citizens if they could grow marijuana on farms instead of the gov't paying them NOT to grow crops or to grow a specific crop even though it's not economically beneficial to do so.

2nd article pisses me off b/c they called a SWAT team in to take down a guy with LESS THAN 1/4 LB of weed. That's roughly 200-800 dollars of weed...
It doesn't say they seized any cocaine, so i'm not sure where that comes into play either. As for the "distribute within 1/2 mi. of a school" why didn't they throw in the cocaine charge too?

I decided to see how close this guy really lives to a school, and no surprise, he lives more than .5 mi away...
