not sure how much you'll be able to help, but i guess it doesnt hurt to ask:

i bought a cheap hookah a couple of years ago--not too big, mainly so i could avoid horribly expensive hookah lounges that are growing in popularity. I'm not really a heavy smoker, aside from an occasional bowl and my tobacco pipe, hookah is all i indulge in. I'm looking to get a nicer one for anywhere between $100-150, and if any of you have purchased one from any sort of website or distributer and have any recommendations, i'd love to hear them.

i'm always hesitant to purchase something like a hookah online. generally, if you can find a hookah lounge that's more on the authentic side, that is, it's run by actual middle eastern immigrants who know how to bust out some quality craftsmanship, go to the shop and buy one. people who use a hookah as part of their every day life and culture are going to yield a much better product than a website. also, you're much better off picking one out in person so you can be sure it's solid. looking at pictures online can be very deceiving.

For some reason I can't stop rolling it into joints. I bought a nice waterpipe a few months ago, but after a month I stopped using it, and went back to rolling. I wish I had a thing for smoking with bongs and hookahs, they both look nice and is good to take hits off, but I always end up with the joints.

(I'm assuming we aren't talking about tobacco, if you are then disregard this post, and go on with your lives without this piece of information).

edit: it smokes amazingly well if you mix the two--stays moist and lasts much longer, plus a nice flavor.

Eh, most of the hookah bars have cheapish hookahs made for actual coal-burning. I prefer slower-burning "fake" coals in nicer hookahs without all the tin and shit on them. For smoking exclusively pot I would recommend an all-glass hookah with a concave bowl, but for smoking tobacco or tobacco/weed the flat style bowl is fine and you can find them most any where.

I've only owned one hookah personally but I've experienced quite a few with my friends and the only thing that usually gets fucked up is the hoses. I dunno if there's a way to avoid hose-clogging but I doubt it - however, I'm sure they don't cost much.

Too many to count. I prefer Green Apple and Blueberry.

It's not that bad I just don't like hookah that much. If my friends and I aren't doing anything and they offer it, I'm more than glad to smoke it, but I can't see myself feeling compelled to go out and buy one.

Plus all the hookah bars in Seattle have steep prices.

Double filtration Hooka


Materials
----------
2 - Aspirator flasks (250 mL works fine)
2 - "female" glass pieces
1 - "slide" piece (bowl)
1 - racketball OR rubber funnel if you can get one
2 - 1' to 3' latex hoses (1/4" ID)

Procedure
----------

put the female pieces into the flasks, and fill them with just enough water to cover the ends of the pieces.

use the rubber funnel or cut the racketball to make a seal between the female piece and the flask

connect hose 1 to end of flask and insert it into the female piece on the second flask. You might need to find something to make a good seal (art erasers work, so does gum)

Easily the best hooka/bong i've ever made. Anyone who's smoked out of it has been amazed. I have to replace the latex tubes about 1x a year. I cut open a Brita water filter (the kind with GAC to remove organics and ? to remove metal ions) and added it to the water in each flask: looks really cool when it bubbles and keeps the water from turning black. Cleaning isn't too hard since it's all glass and if you buy enough tubing, you can just cut parts you don't feel like cleaning.
