To be honest I'm not even sure I have time for a "significant other" these days between my career and social life. Besides, given my company's situation now is the perfect time to work my ass off if I want to move up. If I had a wife, family or even girlfriend I'm not sure I could put in the hours I do or take on all the added responsibilities which is the only reason I'm being considered for a senior analyst role which normally requires 5-7 years experience (I have 1.5 years).

Your point is well taken though and I've often wondered if I should just be content with my salary/position and focus on my personal life. But this job has given my life a purpose and fulfilled me more than any relationship (friend or otherwise) ever has. If that means I wake up one day single, 35, financially secure, with a career I enjoy... well it's more than I ever thought possible while I suffered through 8 years of depression. Priorities may seem messed up, but I've lead a messed up life :grin:

that's normal, I think the majority of people on here are at least a little bit eccentric. When I was unhappy I use to bury my head in my work and avoid thinking about my problems but we all have to deal with them in some way shape or form. Hopefully you don't put all your hope in the job, it can be rewarding but it shouldn't consume your life. I think what really made me happy was getting shit off my chest, sometimes one person can't hold in so much emotion and pain. I'm not even talking about a psychiatrist or a counselor because honestly 99% of the time most problems can be dealt with without professional help.

I only judge the people I know well, so when I act like an arrogant ass at least I'm a well informed arrogant ass. As long as a person's goals don't involve hurting others I say go for it. So few people achieve outstanding success in any single area of life, let alone all of them.
