It amuses me that American politicians are always so out of touch... but i guess as you climb the rungs, these guys are so fucking detached from reality that apparently things like "finite resources" are distant concepts to them. weird, in a market, CEO's seem to be very good at being in touch with reality - or else they get fired. the market is a constant revolution in that sense, where the people who actually deliver on what they say they can deliver, get rewarded for it.

don't even get me started on the failure of "market-driven solutions". clever wording, though... because what he's doing is using a really fancy way to say "government regulation". the entire ethanol subsidies issue that's come up recently, that was a "market-driven solution" that failed. at least this guy, whether he knows it or not, wasn't stupid enough to say the market has failed.

seriously, just go look up a quick summary of mercantilism. you'll find the pattern of heavy trade regulation, governments as mass consumers of wealth, and complete fuck-over of the individual to be highly reminiscent of today's political climate.
