Hard trying not to spoil end here-
So you would like the ending much more if it was a happily ever after with him, the kid and that girl? You mean like they go out, run from a monster or three, barely escape, and suddenly they get out of the fog and are rescued by the almighty american forces? (NOT trying to start any kind of debate about army size/power/whatever) Oh please. That'd be so cliché. I was seriously afraid that it would be one of those endings. As far as you can imagine it this would happen in real life, i wouldve done just the same.

I liked the ending, but then again I was stoned as hell when I watched this, so I'd enjoy anything. :P

you're missing my point, so here's a big ol' block of white text full of spoilers:

i wasn't asking for a "happily ever after" ending- i'm just saying that when the car runs out of gas and they're in the middle of nowhere surrounded by the mist, nobody even considers getting out of the car and trying to make their way out of it. they, as i said earlier, just go with "lets all kill ourselves" in a relatively quick fashion.

        screw. that.

at some point basic human survival instincts would kick in. especially for thomas jane's character, who has a son he is trying to protect. i would've got out of that car with the gun, and if i was about to get dominated by one of the monsters, THAT'S when i would put a bullet in my dome. like i said earlier, hollywood tends to have its characters give up on life in a hurry. you say you would've acted the same in that situation? that you would rather kill yourself rather than attempt to get out of the situation (even though the chances of which would be slim)? really?

oh, and you mention cliché endings...how is a movie where everyone kills themselves at the end NOT cliché? the only twist is that he isn't able to kill himself and then he gets saved. hollywood dramatics at its finest. i didn't like the ending because it was completely unrealistic pertaining to how 90% of all people would act in that situation.

don't highlight that if you don't want to have the ending completely ruined for you.

i wrote way too much about this. jesus.

Hmm, okay, at least not the happy-happy-ending i thought you meant. But still, i guess i would belong to that 10% then. Since there is no guarantuee i can do it before they get me. I dont wanna get the risk of being torn into pieces or sucked empty or whatever.

But anyways, it is quite ridiculous to argue about what we would do if the monsters should attack. Lets just keep it on a not-so-cliche ending, which i already find decent for those recent films.. Guess i got used to hollywood too much.

more spoilers ahead in my reply to PJ:
I just saw this movie for a second time, and I loved it this time around too. I did remember some of your post towards the ending, and I noticed that when they drive to they run out of gas they drive past wrecked cars and bodies all the way. They even see a gigantic monster on their way, shredding the last piece of hope anyone could have had. When they then run out of gas after driving through death and carnage all the way the last hope dies out. They saw everyone who got killed by the monsters die in a horrible way, and a quick death would be merciful compared to that. Even if I was to sit here and use my rationalization to second guess their psyche and choices, I still can't find the flaw in doing what they did. There is no practical way they could have had the chance to shoot everyone they could have under a monster attack, so leaving the car would leave just more of them to a horrible death, even the kid.

I also respectfully disagree with you on the basic human survival instinct point. If this instinct always would be dominant, nobody would be able to jump off a height into their death, or committing any kind of suicide at all.

Lastly, with so many movies being made to this date, you could argue the point that everything is a cliché from a certain point of view these days. The twist where the army comes in after he killed everyone is actually a creative one. Nobody could see this coming, and seeing a movie where I wasn't able to predict the end was a refreshing experience.

noah are you seriously going from thread to thread looking for my posts so you can disagree with them

ending was stupid to me. by your logic, soldiers that see dead bodies and carnage along the road on their way to battle would mean that they would all kill themselves rather than deal with the thought of potentially(!) dying. ridiculous.

come to think of it, the entire movie was less than good. i have no idea why i'm even arguing about this.

I haven't posted in many of the threads you've posted in, and this thread is really the only one I've posted a response to you. If you feel that I'm following you from thread to thread because of this then there isn't much I can really say.

The logic you applied there is far from the same as the one I used, being a soldier in a war situation and being a civilian under a freak attack is two different things.

I liked a movie you didn't like, big deal, nothing I feel is worth arguing any further.

Everyone in this world may have some different likes/dislikes and opinions of their own. Some may like a movie, and some might not. Hell, if you didn't like this movie, try mentioning something the movie didn't have that another movie had, or a movie that you liked more than this one and why. That's what we're here for, to discuss things There isn't any need for an argument, if u liked it good, if u didn't like it, oh well :P Lighten up folks, this place isn't that serious =)
