man i wish they had put this one into the original film. After reading a few of the comments on that page, i got the jist of the book's ending, and i gotta say it must have been a great book. If i hadn't just read the ending coupled with the fact i have zero time for books, I'd definitely pick this up at the library. While bleak, the book's ending is really cool and gives meaning to the title.

I never thought, the entire way through the movie, that he was a legend to the vampires, not the humans. Even though the alternate ending wasn't really that much closer to the book's ending, I felt is was better than the theatrical version. I wonder if they didn't follow the book because they wanted to make the movie more watchable for causal audiences or because they thought their version was more interesting.

I personally thought [the original ending] was one of the worst movie endings I've ever seen. I really enjoyed the movie up until the stupid woman gets in and starts talking about how she had some vision from god to save the world or something retarded like that. They could have done a lot better.
