  • American Drug War: The Last White Hope

It just came out recently and I caught it on Showtime today. God it frustrates me to no end that we actually put up with all this shit and not do anything about it. I don't blame em though, with all the corruption and power running society nowadays, it's impossible to do anything without an act of God or whatever...

I can't really find a link to the video, but it's the internets, I'm sure one of you can find it.

(btw this isn't the movie about the lobbyist for medical marijuana and the idiots in congress that twisted it into sounding like a legalization scheme is it?)

no, kevin booth the guy who made this documentary made this because his family died of tobacco, alcohol and legal prescription drugs. In effect he researches and interviews major people revolved around the war on drugs and the perspective behind it.

It's really good, I recommend this movie to everyone.

                    Everyone.

ok so it's not the movie i'm thinking about, i'll have to figure out what the name is : Waiting to Inhale

It's about a lobbyist for medical marijuana and his attempts to make it legal in some state. Basically whatever senator that was agaisnt him hijacked the debate by recalling all of the potheads he's ever met and how bad they were. I remember him telling some story about managing a grocery store and having to deal with his employees getting high, which has absolutely nothing to do with medical marijuana. He then stated it had no medical benefits or reason to be prescribed. The movie has already shown several doctors in support of medical marijuana, as well as several people who claim to "need" it to function without all the side effects of prescribed drugs. The senator then tried to say that it would corrupt youth and lead to harder drugs. Not once did he stay on topic or listen to scientifc reports.

Basically it summed up for me why drug laws will only continue to grow stricter. There's a lot of reasons, but to name a few: people in position to make laws don't know the facts, they refuse to listen to the facts, they change the subject, they generalize specific incidences, they extrapolate beyond their own knowledge ("I've never done ..."), they're afraid to look bad to others in power, they're afraid to look bad to moral authorities, they're afraid to lose gov't funding, they're afraid to go agaisnt laws, they refuse to identify the initial reasons for the laws, they refuse to look at booming prison populations, they refuse to "rehabiliate" rather than punish, they play the moral high ground, they libel their opponents, etc...

                          Did hell freeze over?

wow i decided to look at cnn.com and what do i see?

a sticky icky bud sitting right there as the main story

seems that a resolutions is being proposed to decriminalize possession up to 100g and 'not for sale' transfers of less than an oz.

could it be that congress finally sees the futility and assbackwardsness of the war on drugs?

                              H. R. 5843

I strongly suggest that if you have some spare time and 50 cents to spare, write your congressmen/women and senators to support H. R. 5843, a bill that would eliminate federal penalties for marijuana possession, use, and transfer by responsible adults.

who knows, this may be the best shot we've ever got to legalize pot.

i'm doing it, and i'm encouraging everyone i know who isn't bigoted about pot to do it too.
