Oh score I don't think these boards have had a Hiroshima/Nagasaki debate in at least a year and a half.

Japan was the only member of the Axis remaining at the time of the drop. I am not saying the West committed any greater or lesser crimes during WW2, it doesn't really matter today. No one is clean in war, everyone has their sins. What we know today is that given that Japan was the only remaining power against the Allies, and given their dire state of affairs the attack on their dense civilian populations did nothing to hasten the end of the war.

I think what you are trying to do here HTF is to prove your sense of nationalism correct by using an era of great strife, yet probably the era of strongest friendship and loyalty between Western nations. Is it worth it to prove your point by sullying the name of the dead, be it Canadian, European or American soldiers and civilians who died?

Is it our fault and does it matter today? No, neither of us or anyone old enough to not have a their thumb in their mouth are alive today. American and Japan relations today are high as are with the rest of the West preceding the Bush era.

Apparently in his mind what they did to Japan is in fact something to be boastful about.

Here's some reasons why no one will ever say thank you.

America decimated Japan, you killed thousands of civilians in probably one of the worst possible ways. America joined the war near the end after thousands upon thousands of Canadians, British, and Russian soldiers, as well as many other soldiers from different countries had given up their lives. Not only that but you also took half the military spoils, such a huge percentage that you would have never gotten if you didn't join so late.

But thanks for showing up late and trying to take all the glory.

The bombs killed as many as 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki by the end of 1945, roughly half on the days of the bombings. Since then, thousands more have died from injuries or illness attributed to exposure to radiation released by the bombs. In both cities, the overwhelming majority of the dead were civilians.

A thank you is not forthcoming.

On May 8, 1945, Germany surrendered. After the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered on September 2, 1945, and the Second World War came to an end. The war cost the lives of more than 330,000 American soldiers. Many more were permanently injured or maimed.

you can thank us later for ending the war. Kids need to brush up on history

We ended the war with fewer casalties then would have went on. Plus we are the only country to have used a nuke against another country. Usa > france

We should give up, expecting him to know any sort of history is pointless. I don't think he understands that other countries have contributed to wars as well as progressing our society in such a way that has allowed us to be born in a democracy.
