Reading this topic... it's just not fair. I don't drink a drop of alcohol and yet every morning I wake up with a blistering headache, fuck you all.

I never really get that bad a hangover, just tend to feel a bit depressed the next day, this is what I tend to do:

After the drinking is over, I would normally go to chick-o-land, basically a poor-man's KFC. Get some chicken pieces with some chips (fries).

Before going to bed, if I was in a state to remember I'd typically have a glass or 2 of squash (no point FORCING yourself to drink 4 litres of water, you'll just wake up needing a piss, or worse if you're totally blitzed, you might just piss the bed), this is good cause it hydrates and has sugar in too.

In the morning, I'd typically feel a little bit sick and not want to eat, but I'd force myself to have something (cheese toastie was a common one), and that'd make me feel better.

I found the best morning drink was definitely this Polish drink called "Kubus", it's kinda a cross between a smoothie and fruit juice, and must be loaded with fruit sugars and vitamins, very refreshing when straight out the fridge. Comes in a variety of flavours too, this one is "Raspberry, Carrot & Apple"

Obviously, it's probably hard to find in the US, so a smoothie or fruit juice will probably have to do! In the UK should be easy enough to find if your local supermarket/corner shop has a Polish section.

Yeah, the only time Worcestershire actually complements something is when its in a Bloody Mary. Raw eggs make me puke, but in a Bloody Mary all whizzed up its actually pretty tolerable.

That looks mighty tasty TagMor, I have a couple beer left, but I'm saving them for later. Or I might just have them in a few minutes, depends on whether my mom has any pot to spare. It really fucking blows when you go dry at 3 or 4 am - just too late to call dealer, or friend, and way too fucking early to call either once morning hits

It's good to know about that milk thing. However I still wouldn't really go for it other than to maybe replace the lining as you said. Something about a tall frosty glass of ol 2% and a massive hangover just don't work for me

Other than Blood, and a few others, it seems like people on SS don't know much about drinking.

First of all! The water thing, fuck yes. As blood said, one glass of water is jack shit. When you're coming to the end of your drinking, try having a glass or 7 before you goto bed. When you do goto bed - have a MASSIVE (I mean massive, my hangover glass holds almost 2L) glass of water right beside your bed. That way, when you wake up in the middle of the night, or the next morning, you have hydration immediatly. gets rid of the pasties too. In addition, if you drink like 9 glasses of water before bed, you're going to pass out, wake, piss - but you have that drink before sleeping again. Helps process it better by morning.

Now the food deal - here's the thing. Vitamins B and C and etc, are great for helping. Fruit Juice for example is a great thing to drink in the middle of a party. The fructose helps you process the alcohol a little faster - and you can mix fruit juices with multipul different kinds of alcohol. Foods that are high in grease and fatty crap, is good for drinking. However, try to eat it before the drinking, not during. It's because the food kind of 'soaks up the alcohol' as some people mentioned, but the thing is it doesn't really. It's just something to do with the lower intestines if I remember correctly. While digesting fatty/greasy foods (McDonalds makes money off drunk people for a reason!) the passage to the lower intestines are closed off because the food is blocking it you could say. The fatter the food, the harder and longer it takes to digest. So naturally, the alcohol metabolizes WITH the food, rather than going RIGHT in and fucking you up. The grease/fat kind of acts like a protective base for your night of drinking. If you're going to eat WHILE drinking, stick to stuff like wings. Fills you up, fatty, greasy, and you can easily eat alot, or a little, good control.

Hair of the dog works, but try having something like a ceaser or cocktail - for those extra vitamins. Speaking of vitamins, a multi-vitamin before and after drinking are a good plan as well (if you drink for the kind of periods I do). Coffee, is usually a bad idea in the morning because it's only going to dehydrate you further. Try having an apple, and a glass of OJ, put the coffee off a few hours, it'll work alot better that way, and maybe prevent a headache.

With headaches we come to tylenol and such. Now I just pop them whenever, drunk or not if I feel like it, so I can't really push this - but it's not a good idea to take them with alcohol in your system. Again, be a man, or woman, and just take the millions of other hangover cures. The side effects of aspirin, Tylenol and ibuprofen can be magnified when alcohol is in your system, so it is best (even though it may be the first thing you reach for) to avoid them to kill the hangover pain. Aspirin is a blood thinner, just like alcohol, and can intensify its effects and Tylenol (or acetaminophen) can cause more damage to your liver. Ibuprofen can also cause stomach bleeding. So be cautious when going for the quick relief.

Now if you're brave, here is the best way to kill a hangover. First, get up, back to drinking water. Bit of light food, to put something in the gut, the other Vitamin, OJ, Apple. Then, grab bottles of water, and go be active. If you have the willpower, you'd be surprised how well this works. Toast and a little jam is a good light morning food, gives you the long term energy of wheat and the natural sugars to help make the hangover go away. I've also heard milk CAN help - though I wouldn't personally run for it.

the spacers trick is good for long drinking occasions. mix it up though, have water, then every 2nd or 3rd spacer, a smaller glass of juice.

Mixing Alcohol isn't bad if you watch the percentages, and know what goes with what. people get fucked up that way because they'll go drinking a bunch of whiskey, then beer, then a fucking White Russian or something and they think they puked because they 'mixed drinks' - it's because they don't know how to drink, what to drink. That really only comes with alot of experience and tolerance. Last of all, Sleep. Don't be afraid to sleep in, else you might wake too early, and that is the cause of more hangovers than alcohol ever will be - not enough sleep!

You need to replace the salts and fluids lost through drinking alcohol. The worst place you can be is in a hot club, dancing and sweating away because you lose more salt and water from your body. Also as they don't have any laws here preventing chemicals being used in beer production, many beers can give an instant headache or worse hangover in the morning (namely Stella Artois). I find If I drink the British brewed stuff, I suffer worse than when I drink the Belgian imported (chemical free) stuff.

I find the best thing to do to prevent a hangover is:

Eat salty, fatty food with lots of protein to absorb all that shit. Kebabs, burgers and chips (fries) at the end of your night.
Get plenty of water inside you (I try for 4 pints)

As a cure if you're still feeling like shit in the morning, a full English breakfast with a bloody mary (vodka, tomato juice, tabasco, raw egg) will do it.

While hungover, as long as I'm not being sick, I find the best thing to do is get out and about and be active.

Like most people said, hydrate yourself before bed and possibly take an aspirin. I think food soaks up the alcohol which might be good, (might be bad, I'm not a doctor) but I find eating and drinking (water) before bed always helps. Instead of your body processing beer and alcohol all night at least you're letting it process some sort of food.
