The issue with the singing girl in Beijing was that she was replaced for not being "pretty" enough.. Although I personally feel it is kinda hypocritical to criticise when Western magazines are full of airbrushed women.
The CGI I have a problem with because it was completely fake.. A comparison would be if the Singing Girl didnt even exist, was just Computer Generated, and danced around the stadium doing matrix-style backflips n shit.
And if the real fireworks were anywhere near as impressive, then why bother to spend a ton of money on such extravegant computer effects?

As far as I understand it just wasn't safe for helicopters or anything to be in the air to film the real fireworks.
