Y'know, I keep getting calls from both the Conservatives and the Liberals bugging me to do surveys.

All I know is that I can't vote for Stephen Harper. I don't think Dion would do a good job, and I can't trust the NDP. Green it is....

I started looking into who was running in my area and to be honest Green seems like they're getting my vote.

i don't think i'd be able to vote for the green party knowing it would take support away from the leading candidate vs harper. call it strategic voting or voting for the lesser of two evils but i really would rather not have to deal with harper as prime minister.

          if only ignatieff had won.

If polls are to believed, the Liberals are way, way, way back right now anyway. Barring some crazyness, I don't think the Liberals are going to be much of a factor for Harper this time around. Whether or not Harper gets a majority though is another matter.

I blame Gerard Kennedy. He was the "kingmaker" whose support pushed Dion to over the top into the Liberal leadership role. Either of Bob Rae or Michael Ignatieff would have made a stronger leader. Hell, even Ken Dryden would have been a better choice.

well i have to say.. i'm not happy with either party in this campaign.. but if i have to vote i'll go with Liberals..

Conservatives, many have stated.. are too closed minded..

NDP.. well they said they will close down the oil refineries in Alberta if they are elected which i find quite amusing, because were our money gonna be from if that is the case?

As for Green Party.. i donno man.. they gonna be wasting TOO much money on environmental issues.. prob will do something with Alberta's economy also

I might be an idiot here, I don't follow politics that closely - but did Ken Dyrden play any NHL? Or am I thinking of someone else/confusing two different people?

The same guy. He was a goalie for the Canadiens, as well as the winning netminder for the final game of the 1972 Summit Series. After his Hall of Fame NHL career, he became a lawyer, then entered politics. He's currently the MP for York Centre. He certainly had the name recognition to have done well. He's definitely not the "dumb jock" stereotype either; he's often accused of being a little too cerebral. Though his French isn't that good, the fact the Montreal Canadiens retired his number certainly would have helped his popularity in Quebec.

Unfortunately, like John McCain initially, Dryden had problems raising enough funds to make a strong bid for the party leadership. He fell in one of the earlier ballots and put his support behind Bob Rae before supporting Dion after Rae also dropped out of the running.

I just realized I can either vote in Mississauga Streetsville, which will vote Liberal (Especially since the liberals are up against Wajid Khan) or in Okaville where the Liberals only won by a margin of 700 votes in the last federal election.

It's funny to watch the election here in Newfoundland because our Premier who is a Progressive Conservative is running a campaign federally called ABC, Anything but Conservative. And with our Premier having about an 80% approval rating I wouldn't be surprised if the whole province goes Liberal. But it is possible that it doesn't. This being said, Harper's argument to Newfoundlander's is to tell us that if we don't vote conservative we won't have any representation in parliament and we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. Sounds like a bit of a threat to me. Fun to watch.

He's a smart guy, he's looking out for his province. Canada isn't doing too bad right now but we need to stick our surplus of money into the provinces, cities, and towns and work towards fixing our infrastructure. Especially considering that money probably won't be there in 2-3 years time. I was at an all candidates debate on Friday and Terrence Young running as a Conservative in Oakville said "frankly our economy is fine" as well as "taking off 1% of the GST has benefited all Canadians". Terrence even got one of his cronies who could barely speak English to ask a question, rather state that Canadians are over taxed as it is and taking away that 1% GST has helped the poor and middle class. Everyone turned their heads every time Terrence answered a question and gave each other a look like "he did not just say that".

I feel he was more than a little disheartening in trying to convince local residents that Canada faces no economic issues, even if economically we're still holding our heads above the water.

Harper won't get a majority, he needs to pick up a lot of seats in Toronto and the surrounding communities. Considering most of the voters from the General Toronto Area vote NDP, Green, or Liberal I don't think they stand to win a lot of seats unless the left vote is heavily split. I hope Canadians realize Harper called an illegal election, is wasting hundreds of millions of dollars to call this election, and is not working on the issues the average Canadian wants him to work on. Personally I'd like to see the Green Party pick up a few seats.

Harper cuts funding to art programs

I'm concerned about our Canadian identity when I feel as though Prime Minister Harper will cut funding to programs that help establish ourselves from everyone else. CBC is subsidized for a reason, it helps provide a Canadian perspective to a widely Americanized market. There's fears that PM Harper will privatize the CBC, in which case our sovereign rights as Canadians are under direct attack.

From a career standpoint this also fucks me over pretty bad.
