  • day planners

alright so i'm unorganized and i've been unorganized for my entire life. i'm usually late and i don't own a watch. i've tried using a day planner before but those basically get tossed to the side after about a week because i just don't remember to use it all the time. i'm trying to break my habits but i really don't think day planners are for me.

calendars don't have enough space on them for me to write shit on them. i'm looking for some kind of program for my computer. anyone have any good recommendations? i've tried windows calendar and it's too simple for me, looking for something that will do most of my shit for me so it doesn't take me like 50 minutes to set up my schedule.

face you seem like the type of guy who would be on time (or at least bring chocolates when you were going to be late) and i'd appreciate some help here.

Check around your local colleges for some top quality planners that you can buy for about $10.

I go to a university in Burnaby, B.C. but I would rather buy a planner from the university that my girlfriend goes to because each page consists of 3 days worth of space to write stuff. Each day is split into 1) Appointments, 2) General Study, 3) Rest of your life with adequate space for each. At the top of each page are lines to write memos for stuff you gotta do by the end of each week.

So what I'm saying is, try to look for a student planner that offers something that I have described above.

I use MS Outlook for this and email and it pretty much does whatever I need it to. I've got my schedule laid out pretty well and I can add appointments and set reminders for myself hours or days before I need to do something. Besides the calendar/events part of it, I also use the to-do list like nobody's business. If I think of something I have to do (even something stupid like do laundry), I put it on there and when it's done I delete it. Really good way to make sure all your shit gets done and feel accomplished at the same time.

Outlook all the way, having a calendar with colours is a personal milestone. With a more or less recent mobile phones you can transfer all your appointments from outlook to that mobile phone and never forget anything. Mobile to Outlook works too, it is not more work to use your mobile than to write something manually in a planner that possibly makes you look nerdy.

I think you can also transfer the Google calendar into Outlook. Which is great because Google has usermade predefined appointments, like holidays, festivals, ... But i havent done this for a while.

I never used the Todo list, this list is unorganized isnt it? I dont like that. I write myself mails with what to do and order them into folders if i do not have an exact date on when i want to do that kind of stuff. If i do it goes into the calendar.

Outlook 2007 has rss feeds, also a great feature.

See I had the same problem. I'd be given fancy planners all the time, and forget where I put them and shit. So I started buying, simple little 60 page 1 dollar memo notebook/pad things. Basically, something you can afford to buy 3-4 at a time. Just start by always having a pen, and one of these little pads in your back pocket. Eventually, you'll find a use for it. I've gotten compliments many times for being quick on the draw with a pen a paper when someone asks, not to mention if I smoke a fat one, I can look back and find my TO DO list for the day :P

and if your late, and it's hot outside, careful them chocolates don't melt!

ps - i dont keep the pen in the back pocket with the book thing, that ruined a pair of good jeans once!

Just buy a really really expensive one.

Then you'll be forced to use it or you'll feel like you wasted money.

I use one of these. It's posted on my door so I don't miss it going out. The same thing will happen to your computer program that happened to your day planner.

depends on how you are as a person. some people are organized, some are unorganized, and some are organized in a way that might seem otherwise.

i keep a bag and it's always got a few notebooks and pens (uni-ball signo Z07 - debate-tested, mother approved). it's not exactly super organized - jotting things down in margins and notebook covers - but i've tried everything else there is and it doesn't work - mainly because every other method involves too much hassle and i've got a hectic life. i tried to use my blackberry but it's too time-consuming, day planners aren't... good enough? designed in a convenient way?

a notebook is nice. i jot down shit i need to remember, interesting bands, sketches, ideas, thoughts, etc. i guess everything else doesn't have the flexibility and ease of a notebook. but then again, i carry my bookbag with me almost everywhere i go.

i also pilfered a roll of receipt paper from work, and i usually keep a few feet folded up in my back pocket just in case. and that's how i do it!
