yeah the revolutionized aspect isn't the fact that it is 3d or whatever. It is because it can take in visible light as well as UV light as HB said

that i dont know, since it isnt mentioned anywhere.

what i do know is that in the articles on the net he mentions that current "solar cells" are flat.. (this is bs)

nor can i find any information on his "3d cell" i.e. power output, absorption rate etc, so i could compare it to whats available already. if it is similar, then it has already been invented

                      He's 12, give him a break.

imho, he should get a $100,000 scholarship so he can go to MIT.

yeah, i'm sure they gave him the award without checking all the technical aspects of his design. i would't be so quick to dismiss his accomplishment.

although i do have to question the way he went about this, it's not like a 12 yr old has access to the type of stuff he'd need to do that project without help from someone. not to mention the money and such that he'd need for the project. i had a guy in one of my classes make RC solar cars for a science project- he won like 3rd place or something, but the thing is he just bought the kit off the internet.

so it's possible that this isn't the most cutting edge tech, but it is definitely worthy of the attention he's getting if he did the work himself. i've heard about flexible solar panels, but not 3d ones before. i'm not saying it didn't exist when he won, after all the telephone was patented how many days before that other guy tried?

god is anyone reading the fucking article.

The innovation is not the fucking flat surface solar panel changed to a 3d cube or what the fuck ever.

the thing they are raving about is that it can take in fucking UV LIGHT as well as visible light (which is what we only had)

fine let the west coast hippies make solar cells that run off of disco lights to power their ecofriendly fag orgies and i'll call it something to rave over.
