The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace
Posted on November 7, 2008 by theexpositor

This a great article by Wall Street Journal journalist Jeffery Scott Shapiro.

Earlier this year, 12,000 people in San Francisco signed a petition in support
of a proposition on a local ballot to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after
George W. Bush. The proposition is only one example of the classless
disrespect many Americans have shown the president.

APAccording to recent Gallup polls, the president’s average approval rating is
below 30% — down from his 90% approval in the wake of 9/11. Mr. Bush has
endured relentless attacks from the left while facing abandonment from the
    right.

This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats
and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to
voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, “Today, I want to
speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger
and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do
all I can do to deserve your trust.”

Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both
    political parties.

The president’s original Supreme Court choice of Harriet Miers alarmed
Republicans, while his final nomination of Samuel Alito angered Democrats. His
solutions to reform the immigration system alienated traditional
conservatives, while his refusal to retreat in Iraq has enraged liberals who
have unrealistic expectations about the challenges we face there.

It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He
remains despised by the left while continuously disappointing the right.

Yet it should seem obvious that many of our country’s current problems either
existed long before Mr. Bush ever came to office, or are beyond his control.
Perhaps if Americans stopped being so divisive, and congressional leaders came
together to work with the president on some of these problems, he would
actually have had a fighting chance of solving them.

Like the president said in his 2004 victory speech, “We have one country, one
Constitution and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work
together, there is no limit to the greatness of America.”

To be sure, Mr. Bush is not completely alone. His low approval ratings put him
in the good company of former Democratic President Harry S. Truman, whose own
approval rating sank to 22% shortly before he left office. Despite Mr.
Truman’s low numbers, a 2005 Wall Street Journal poll found that he was ranked
the seventh most popular president in history.

Just as Americans have gained perspective on how challenging Truman’s
presidency was in the wake of World War II, our country will recognize the
hardship President Bush faced these past eight years — and how extraordinary
it was that he accomplished what he did in the wake of the September 11
    attacks.

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less
than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and
slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have.
The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in
America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our
nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not
gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can
be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and
weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White
    House.

Mr. Shapiro is an investigative reporter and lawyer who previously interned
with John F. Kerry’s legal team during the presidential election in 2004.

More hilarious "journalism" from the same site about the election of Obama:

So get ready America…get ready for more abortions, more preferential treatment for homosexuals, more taxes, more tax dollars spent on wasteful and even perverted cause, more socialism, more decadence, more liberalism, more heathenism, and I think….judgment.

Bush is the most dividing president in modern history. He Governed from the far right and the United States paid for it, nuff said. The lessons of the last 8 years may be lost on those who don't understand how democratic Government is supposed to function, but then again you guys don't care much for what people on the outside looking in think.

Gold Medal for the Dalai Lama
President Bush signs into law proposal to honor Dalai Lama with medal despite Chinese objections

                  The Associated Press

                  Published: September 27, 2006

WASHINGTON President George W. Bush signed into law Wednesday a bill to present to the Dalai Lama a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. Congress.
The decision to honor the leader of Tibetan Buddhism, who is still widely revered in the mountainous region ruled by China, caused outrage in Beijing when the House of Representatives passed the measure two weeks ago.

At the time, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang denounced the decision, which he said "seriously interferes with China's internal affairs and damages China-U.S. relations."

The Chinese government considers the Dalai Lama a political troublemaker who works from his exile in India to push for Tibet's independence. The Dalai Lama led large numbers of followers to refuge in northern India in 1959 following a failed uprising against Chinese rule.

The proposal to honor the Dalai Lama with a Congressional Gold Medal was co-sponsored by 73 of the 100 senators. It said the Dalai Lama "has struggled for half a century to better the lives of the Tibetan people." The Dalai Lama was awarded the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, which China also criticized.

Other non-Americans who have been awarded the Congressional medal include Britain's World War II prime minister, Winston Churchill; Albanian-born humanitarian Mother Teresa; and Nelson Mandela, the first president of post-apartheid South Africa.

doesn't qualify as completely opposite and invalid.

Even if it were true (which for christ's sake, why-can't-you-guys-figure-it-out, it most likely won't be), it's like saying that tommorow, "the sky will be completely black, and also completely yellow."

Seriously, where do these people come up with these things? I know that in Europe a lot of people have the idea that Obama is pro-abortion and pro-gay rights too and stuff. But Obama is not pro-abortion (not strictly against it either), against gay marriage. And like I said in the other thread, Obama is conservative as fuck compared to other countries, America overall is conservative as fuck. No matter how much of a liberal you call Obama.

Obama isn't really for or against much heh. That's why many conservatives are holding their breath for now.

Interesting that they awarded Mandella this award, but only under pressure as well as noting the birthday celebration of Mandella did the U.S. govt take Mandella off the terrorists list. That's correct, Bush awarded Mandella an award and as far as the U.S. home land security dept was concerned, Madella was a Terrorist.

F'd up...but then again Ted Kennedy as well as John Kerry had been added to that list as well by the Homeland Secutiy Dept. Bunch of f'n idiots that got appointed to these positions.

Have not heard from good old Denny Hastert lately either...you know...the ex-speaker of the house. The one that was bribed by Abramoff to ignore the child sex trade in the U.S. Marianas. This enabled child sex legally for visiting men of all ages to have sex with 5 - 13 yr old girls...some say Hastert was one of the customers. Dennis Hastert and the Republican Leadership of Congress for 6 years put protecting his political power above the duty to protect children from sexual predators on an American territory.

But ya know it is all Pelosi's fault and Harry Reid, as they have been in power of the houses for only 2 yrs of the last 8.

Anyone hear of what Foley is doing lately? Asking young boys to do favors still?

Sorry...went off on a tangent there.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

i think calling obama "not socialist" is like calling bush "not fascist", because even though they aren't... they are.

i am of the wait-and-see camp but obama does advocate, in his agenda, things that would involve the nationalization of industries / government ownership of private means of production. these are both "socialist" measures.

what he does is along those lines and calling it something else isn't good policy-making. i know that the reason people might avoid calling him a "socialist" is because of the stigma associated with such words, but it also deflects alot of criticism that otherwise would be very relevant. his policies have very real potential effects and consequences, and such things should be discussed.

of course, if the argument is over whether or not a policy is "socialism" instead of whether or not the policy "works", it's a pretty convenient way to let bad laws pass without any looking at the fine print. then again, i guess politicians would never get laws passed if they let people see what would actually happen post-policy.

it seems like the phrase "socialism" doesn't even really mean anything bad these days. whereas i would argue that a policy is bad because of the socialist redistribution, i seem to hear in the mainstream that policies are socialist, and therefore bad. no explanation into how the actual, specific policy is bad - just that it is "socialist", and this is supposed to 'speak for itself'.

of course, it seems to be a convenient code-word, because if you attach it to a phrase then all conservatives hate it without question, and liberals defend it without question, and it saves you 45 seconds for your quick commercial break.

i believe that the question of "socialism" should always be relevant - but it should also be a question with a serious analysis behind it. of course, i guess it should be like this with everything, such as the phrase "pallin' around with terrorists". maybe i'm asking for too much.

in other news, last night i fucked a white chick!

President-elect Obama plans to use his executive powers to make an immediate impact when he takes office
"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."
I think the bad precedent that Bush set was, well, using so many XO's without Congress. How can Obama really be limiting the things that Bush was disliked for - like abusing his power - when Obama is going to use that exact same stretching of power?
